Republican Presidential Candidate Debate #14 Milford, New Hampshire 01/06/08 - Official Discussion Thread
Fox News Channel; Roundtable format
Candidates the gatekeepers are allowing to participating:
Sorry to piggyback on your post, Hattie, but do you know anyone that is for McCain?
I know a lot of people of many persuasions and NONE of them mention McCain. I think he’s a media created straw man.
I guess if we see a drastic swing in the numbers tomorrow, then we’ll know that this debate made a big difference for McCain and Mitt.
Rudy can beat Obama and Hillary,
~~~~
That may have once been a possibility,
but I don’t believe it to be so now.
Too much dirt with Kerik and his
own business loot from foreign countries,
and the wifey/mistress stuff is very
unpalatable to most, and it’ll ALL be
used handily against him.
Tomorrow’s Zogby numbers will tell the tale.
If Mitt’s momentum continues - we win!
Agree, McCain harps too much on his fake claim to have invented the surge strategy, stealing thunder from Petraeus. Slimy McCain.
Fred’s a conservative having to share a table with a bunch of RINOs.
Chris Wallace, with out a doubt is the least intelligent anchor on national television. Talk about nepotism and ridin’ on your Father’s Coattails...
He is an embarassment to FOX and SO WAS THE ENTIRE BROADCAST!
Frank Luntz indeed!
Frank reminds me of wicked Uncle Ernie...
“Glad that you don’t see or hear me as I fiddle about.. fiddle about..”
Let's be honest about tonight's debate, though. There were times when Fred could have sprung into the conversation and didn't. There were times when a question was directed at him, and he first played pattycake with his hands and took 30 seconds to begin to get a coherent thought out. Often, he was questioned right after Rudy, and he was virtually in slow motion after the New Yorker talking speed.
I KNOW Fred's content is better, more important for this country, and that Fred can pound the Democrat rival, but how can we get that across if Fred doesn't, first?
I suggest that Fred go straight to the American people on this issue too. I would fall off my chair in sheer joy if Fred would turn to the camera at one of these debates and say something like, "Look, American Republicans. You have a choice to make here, and it is EASY to go with the best packaging you see around a candidate. I'll be the first to admit that I am not a slick talker. In fact, it can take me a few extra seconds on every sentence. But what I've got to say is very important for America's future. So you can choose the pretty packaging and modulated voices of my fellow candidates if that's what you're looking for in a President. But if you want true leadership, someone to turn to in good times and in crises, I ask that you give me those extra seconds of attention and help me win this nomination..." etc.
They ignore him and hate him because he doesn’t play by their archaic rules.
Where the hell have you been the entire cycle?
Yes, Fred "talks with his hands". I tend to do that too. I agree it doesn't look too good on TV. However his answers were great.
It seems he does "the hands"- when he is deep in thought.
It's funny because, you'd think with him being an actor , that , he'd know how to be a better public speaker.
Maybe someone can tie his hands to his sides for the next public appearence-LOL.
Fred should use his acting ability to help him a little bit- "play the part" , so to speak.
There were enclaves of conservatism,
but on the whole .. ALL of New England
is mostly lib. Look at the Kennedy
dynasty .. decades.
How’s Rudi supposed to know his best friend is mobbed up? Anybody could have missed that one.
How about a man who makes jillions
selling his security/terrorism
prevention business to the world?
Mark Steyn is right. If you turn down the sound and watch Mitt, he seems to be saying “How much will it take to put you into this BMW?”
#2250...Terrific post Yaelle...That’s about what i would expect Fred to do in coming months, kind of like that Reagan moment when he said “ I’m paying for this microphone”
I'm not surprised. Just look at what surrounds us these days! We have cable news, with a picture in a picture, a scrolling new alert on the bottom of the screen...we live in A.D.D. times. People are accustomed to "fast and flashy".
I like Fred, he's my choice, but I have to agree with the comments that say he needs to show some spark. Yes, I respect the fact that he doesn't play media games, but as he says himself, we are playing for critical stakes. He needs to demonstrate some fire, the killer instinct.
That’s not how the flat tax works. Same percentage, different amounts.
