Fred to MSM: "I Owe You Nothing."
nationalreview ^ | 01/06/08 | Jonathan Adler

Fred Thompson has been understandably frustrated with the media's obsession with "process" and horserace stories, particularly when media outlets fanned false rumors that he was ready to get out of the race. So Team Thompson is understandably happy with this exchange from NBC's Today Show, in which he refused to engage speculation about the source of anti-Thompson rumors and told Lester Holt "I owe you nothing."

If Michelle ran with it, she should do a retraction or apology.

It was mostly Allahpundit on HotAir that was playing that tune. Michelle Malkin has responded to enough attacks of rumors and smears against her that I could not believe that she allowed these outright lies to be repeated on her site.

If this is an indication of where her and her employees principles lay, then I don't think they will have much of a message for me to listen to any longer. I don't suffer liars and rumor mongers for a second.

Fred wants to give power back to the States.

The DNC, the RNC and the MSM won’t stand for that.

They’re praising him for not putting up with the media’s nonsense.

Two others on this thread were right noting he recognized what the “journalist” was up to and refused to play that game.

PS _ THompson should let FOX have it as soon as the gate opens - “I would like to preface my remarks by disagreeing with the FOX decision to exclude Cngressman Paul....”

Actually, Fred isn’t telling the media to shove it. He is telling the dishonest media to shove it. Big difference there. Fred has been part of the media himself. News and entertainment, as well as talk radio. He dislikes dishonesty and shuns and exposes it wherever he finds it.

Fred needs to stick to his guns... He is *not* overtly hostile. Is he being overtly hostile here? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0hh6dwjKb7c

It makes sense. He gets paid every time a Law & Order with him appears on TV.

“He is *not* overtly hostile”

In this campaign Fred has demonstrated independence from the news media. To say he is “hostile” or that he has “contempt” is a blatant distortion. Blatant distortions are in most cases intentional lies.

Posters on certain websites, myself included, could be described as hostile towards the media. But Fred has been a gentleman. Just watch the videos again.

Again, we must understand the difference between independence from the media and hostility or contempt towards them.

Did anyone hear the exchange between Bill O’reilly and Jerry Thompson? It was very terse and defensive.

I am a strong Thompson supporter, but (in the spirit of constructive criticism,) he has to learn to use humor to let things roll off his back. He also handed attention back to Romney in the debate when he asked him about health care. Fred needs to learn to keep that attention and be more competitively assertive. If you look at the air exposure time in the debate, his was most likely near the bottom.

In response to the President’s question, he was given a golden opportunity to enumerate the enduring conservative principles that will guide his decision making. He chose to wax philosophically on the Constitution and completely waste the opportunity he was given to clearly delineate himself from the rest of the pack. He is way too analytical. He needs to think and speak in outline form.

The American public is used to contestants in reality shows on the tv who are “hungry” competitors. If they aren’t, they are sent packing for not really wanting it enough. Fred made a huge mistake on that one and his perceived lack of hunger is not resonating with the American public. He also has a problem with women. Statistics show that Huckabee resonated highly with women in the Iowa caucus. Their issues would most likely be family related. Fred is at a disadvantage as he is strong state’s rights and doesn’t believe in federal child care, health care, education and social programs. That puts him at a disadvantage. He needs to explain that he supports local community control of these issues.

Another item on this: Allahpundit was working feverishly to disprove the smears against Michelle Malkin when her head was photoshopped onto a bikini clad lady's body. Here's a link and another link where Allahpundit seemed to be the champion of truth and honesty. Now it seems he loves being a rumor mongering weasel.

You got it backward..... They owe him. They pay, he collects residuals. He is laughing his ass off because he gets so much for giving so little in return.

The difficulty for Fred is in the arrogance and narcissism of the people running the MSM. They cannot visualize a world in which all political candidates are not directly dependent on them for the entire campaign process. So their response towards a candidate who chooses to run his campaign independent of the media is very likely to be hostile.

This is one likely explanation for why Fox News has been irrationally dismissive of Fred Thompson.
