Drug companies spend fortunes on R&D in the USA. Some of the same drugs are approved in much shorter time than that, in Europe.
Honestly, I took a Course in Pharmacology a couple of years ago, and though my memory of certain stats is likely imperfect, my overall impression is that pharmaceuticals are way more expensive here in the USA than they ought to be.
I realize that I am fortunate because my health has always been good. That fact of course could change in an instant.
I totally sympathize with pissy. It is a hard knock life.
I did clinical research in biologics for many years, righting the Clinical programs, and the studies included in the developement.
I then carried them out.
I know why biologics cost so much.
The Zoster trials required 50,000 subjects. Rotovirus required 70,000.
After years and years of 60 hour work weaks by thousands and thousands of people, your vaccine may be rejected, or, a competitor may beat you to market.
My issues are with government interference.
Foreign nations then steal the successful products. Americans are therefore forced to make up the difference. Pharm then has only 7 years to make their profit and regain their investment.
Biologics are a very risky business.
I accept that I have to pay for my stuff. I get even more pissy when I’m paying for 2 other people to get my stuff for free, and they don’t show up and the material and staff goes to waste.
