As noted in Cliff's post yesterday (relying on a Bill Gertz report in the Washington Times), the Pentagon has sacked an authentic, influential scholar of Islam, Stephen Coughlin, who evidently refused to lie about er, I mean, "soften his views on" Islamic extremism (which, like it or not, is rooted in Islamic scripture) at the insistence of one Hasham Islam, Army Chief Gordon England's Islamophilic factotum (one of countless such creatures now pervading the federal government).
For more on this, check out this post on the new website of Andrew Bostom, another scholar of Islam. Andy knows Coughlin and his work. He also draws a worthy comparison between Coughlin and William Eaton, whose travails trying to defend the American people against both jihadism and elements in his own government occurred two centuries ago. Particularly interesting is this, from early America's first contacts with the jihadists of the day, the Barbary pirates:
Thirty years earlier, in 1786, Thomas Jefferson and John Adams, then serving as American ambassadors to France and Britain, respectively, met in London with the Tripolitan Ambassador to Britain, Sidi Haji Abdul Rahman Adja. These future American presidents were attempting to negotiate a peace treaty which would spare the United States the ravages of jihad piracymurder, enslavement (with ransoming for redemption), and expropriation of valuable commercial assetsemanating from the Barbary states (modern Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, and Libya). During their discussions, they questioned Ambassador Adja as to the source of the unprovoked animus directed at the nascent United States republic. Jefferson and Adams, in their subsequent report to the Continental Congress, recorded the Tripolitan Ambassadors justification:
that it was founded on the Laws of their Prophet, that it was written in their Koran, that all nations who should not have acknowledged their authority were sinners, that it was their right and duty to make war upon them wherever they could be found, and to make slaves of all they could take as Prisoners, and that every Mussulman who should be slain in Battle was sure to go to Paradise. 'Twas ever thus. Steve Coughlin is apparently gone for saying so.

From the Washington Times article by Bill Gertz:
He had run afoul of a key aide to Mr. England, Hasham Islam, who confronted Mr. Coughlin during a meeting several weeks ago when Mr. Islam sought to have Mr. Coughlin soften his views on Islamist extremism.
“Mr. Coughlin was accused directly by Mr. Islam of being a Christian zealot or extremist “with a pen,” according to defense officials. Mr. Coughlin appears to have become one of the first casualties in the war of ideas with Islamism.
The officials said Mr. Coughlin was let go because he had become “too hot” or controversial within the Pentagon.
Misguided Pentagon officials, including Mr. Islam and Mr. England, have initiated an aggressive “outreach” program to U.S. Muslim groups that critics say is lending credibility to what has been identified as a budding support network for Islamist extremists, including front groups for the radical Muslim Brotherhood.
Mr. Coughlin wrote a memorandum several months ago based on documents made public in a federal trial in Dallas that revealed a covert plan by the Muslim Brotherhood, an Egyptian-origin Islamist extremist group, to subvert the United States using front groups. Members of one of the identified front groups, the Islamic Society of North America, has been hosted by Mr. England at the Pentagon.”
Now, aren’t we all happy little Republicans who have been falling on our swords for 7 years for a man like TROP George Bush! /s
The election can’t come one day too soon! When it comes to selling out America to Mohammedanism, which Democrat, let alone Republican, candidate is worse than Bush and his Mohammedanism loving cabal?
Horrible news. NO doubt in my mind. The US is obeying its masters on the Arabian peninsula. The Jizyah tax is being paid again.
I will pay $100.00 for a verified digital photo of Hasham Islam.
bttt
Folks, were not talking about England, the new home of Londonistan.
Instead, we’re talking about a guy in our Defense Department, whose name happens to be “England”, and who is surrendering to multiculturalism.
Couple of things.... Gordon England is the Deputy Secretary of Defense, so I don’t understand this Army Chief title given to him.
And secondly, wouldn’t a decision like this regarding Stephen Coughlin be up to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff? Not the Dep. Sec. of Def.
Hasham Isham is an aide to Dep. Sec DoD , England. His appointment was likely political, and no one even can find a picture of Hasham Islam. This is really kookie. This Hasham Islam is wielding power, and we can't even ID the guy, who is on taxpayer funded salary. I wonder what his security clearance is and what his background is. We need a bio. on this guy.
Those Coughlin’s have always been Christian zealots. In the blood I guess. Shut em down.
how could we allow this,
Is Stephen Coughlin’s “offending” piece available to the public? If the Pentagon is going to reject it, the people should have it so the people know what kind of blooming idiots are “defending” us.
I found an article on Hesham Islam here, with photo. The problem is that his name was misspelled.

“...so I dont understand this Army Chief title given to him.

I don’t know the answer to that. I have a buddy, a Greek guy I used to run with in the Indo China days, who is some kind of a dep. sec. def. or assistant dep. sec. def. or some such thing. I’m going to ask him what’s going on.
Thanx for the JCS info. I don’t know who hired Coughlin
Maybe Hasham Islam is not his true name. Or maybe the spelling is way off.
Hasham Islam is too abbreviated to be his full real name. The real name should be much longer than that.
Picture is accurate. Hesham is a retired US Navy officer, born in the Middle East, possibly Egypt, who reputedly served in the Iranian navy before joining the U.S. Navy. He works for Deputy Secretary of Defense Gordon England who replaced Paul Wolfowitz. Hesham is the DepSec’s liaison to Middle Eastern embassies and the Muslim community in the U.S. His exact title and role are mysterious even in the Pentagon.
