What About Duncan Hunter?
Heartford Courant ^ | Jan. 4, 2008 | David Lyon

Posted on 01/05/2008 9:00:37 AM PST by AuntB

The Courant missed a Republican candidate for president during its front-page profile news series ["Defining Moments"] and its editorial series [Dec. 31, Jan. 2, "Countdown To Iowa"]. That candidate is Rep. Duncan Hunter, from the San Diego area of California.

Hunter has a solid and consistent record of achievement and service since he was first elected to Congress in 1980. A Vietnam war veteran, his family has a strong military heritage. He is a man of courage and integrity who is willing to tell the truth, even if it isn't politically correct. He's not a fly-by-night, one-issue or offbeat candidate.

In our republic, the role of the media is to provide information to the citizens, so they can select their leaders and help to decide the direction of our country. The media should not be choosing our leaders for us. The voters should be informed about all the candidates; then they can decide who will win. If The Courant can provide information about low-polling Democratic candidates (such as Joseph Biden, Bill Richardson, Chris Dodd and Dennis Kucinich), then it can do so for Duncan Hunter. His website is www.gohunter08.com.

When the voters know about all the candidates, then they can decide for themselves who should lead our country.

David Lyon

I saw two guys laying pipeline across Independence Avenue and I thought all I have to do is straighten my tie and make another speech.

That's it! I question the fire in his belly!

Is he lazy?

Oops, sorry. I thought we were talking about Fred. /sarc>

I simply cannot understand why conservatives cannot see the best candidate in this whole unremarkable field of RINOs. Duncan Hunter is heads and shoulders better than any of these also-runs. He has 26 years of House experience, strong on military and border defense and is an extremely good fiscal conservative. If America settles for less than an extremely well qualified Duncan Hunter, we deserves the mediocre government that we will surely get out of the Democrats and all these RINOs.

Fred’s probably a fine guy; but I don’t believe he is as conservative as he says he is. It’s more gut reaction than anything else. They keep putting out all these conservative facts about him after the fact.

Duncan Hunter hasn’t waivered a bit. He stays right on message.

Surprise, surprise! People continue to claim Hunter is the one to blame for his poll numbers when it is obvious that there is a conspiracy to keep him hidden and silent. There is NOTHING wrong with the candidate himself but the manipulation and political machinations at work here.

No, conservatives should have combined to get behind Duncan Hunter. The sell-outs will continue on with Fred. I will not be supporting Fred and the ‘electable’ reason for settling for him doesn’t hold credibility as Fred has no chance of winning a GENERAL election. IF he managed to get people to settle for him and vote against everyone to prevent who some consider worse(that’s nothing to brag about!) from getting the nomination-the GOP is in trouble with the general public because Fred is not the man.

I’m gone after the primary. The GOP is dying and will not recover if anyone outside of Hunter gets the nomination.

And you don’t even have to try to be a condescending arse. You and your campaign finance reform boy Freddy must be so proud of manipulating elections! Fred can’t earn the vote, he has to manipulate it with people only voting against someone else.

Hopefully within four (or at most eight years) the Hartford (Commie) Courant will have printed its last hard-copy edition and its reporters and editors will be loitering on the streets of Hartford with a tight grip on their shopping carts full of soda cans.

If Duncan Hunter is President he can tell them to "get a job".

:-)

I think one of the things that has hurt Duncan Hunter the worst is having people like you as his supporters. Seriously. People like you who think that anyone who doesn't support your particular conservative candidate is a "sell out" (whatever that means). People like you who are willing to toss the Reagan coalition under the bus because you'd rather pitch a hissy fit about most conservatives supporting Fred, instead of Duncan. I like Duncan, but his supporters are a real turnoff. And unfortunately, "Evil communication corrupteth good manners". Duncan's name is tarred by people like yourself. You "threatened" in another post to leave the GOP, since it didn't (and won't) nominate your guy. I am hard pressed as to see how we'll miss you.

What do I mean by sell-out?? Seriously, don’t go preaching to me when it is you “FREDHEADS” who have continued to mock an authentic conservative and MANY have admitted as much that they actually like Hunter best and would PREFER him BUT(it’s always about the “BUT”) they SELL OUT! This is Fred Thompson we are talking about-a man so close to McCain and who was a main cohort to bring us CAMPAIGN FINANCE REFORM which is what led to the ‘TRAITOR’ talk right here on FR!!!! How about the fact Fred never was anything in the Senate and the fact that his record on illegal immigration and indifference with cracking down on it does not match his recent election conversion(yeah, right “Mr. Conservative” my arse!), his most favored nation status for China and indifference to what we are facing there or how about the pathetic way in which he handled Clinton’s ChinaGate?? These are not MINOR issues! CAMPAIGN FINANCE REFORM led to a tremendous backlash toward McCain let us not forget. Rush and this board and conservatives everywhere went on tirades and those other issues are pretty darn important issues as well. This is not small stuff! Yet we are told Fred is ‘electable’. Sure, when you are only voting for him because you think the general public is somehow going to elect him for being on Law and Order-I mean, LOOK AT HIM! He is not going to sell to the general public and doesn’t have anything to draw respect from people like a stellar personal story or military service. He is dull and doesn’t even compare to Bob Dole. This election and the outcome of the GOP primary is not on the Hunter people to take the fall of ‘conservatives’ but the Fred people who many/most will admit they like Hunter the best. Maybe not you, but you sure do make your way onto the Hunter threads and start with the manipulation BS. I will tell you that you and your fellow “Fredheads” really are ones to preach about how you tarnish a candidate. The thing is that you are just as desperate as Fred and cannot EARN the vote for Fred but rather cast him as ‘better’ than the other options. Of course the only way you can do it with Hunter is to play that BS about ‘name recognition’ because Fred is no Duncan Hunter and actually not prefered by most of the people who have seen and know about Duncan Hunter.

Waaah! Maybe it’s really Hunter supporters who are selling out, what with their Dimocrat/Labour Unionesque support for protectionism? Sorry, but I don’t get my economics from Pat Buchanan and Ted Kennedy, unlike yourself.
