DES MOINES Senator Barack Obama of Illinois, a one-term Democratic senator trying to become the nations first African-American president, rolled to victory in the Iowa caucuses on Thursday night, lifted by what appeared to be a record turnout of voters who rejected the criticism that he did not have enough experience.

With nearly 80 percent of Republican precincts reporting, Mr. Huckabee won with 34 percent of the vote to 25 percent for Mr. Romney and 13 percent each for Mr. Thompson and Mr. McCain.
On the Democratic side, with 97 percent of votes tallied, Mr. Obama had 37.5 percent, Mr. Edwards 29.9 percent and Mrs. Clinton 29.4 percent. Gov. Bill Richardson...

An estimated 220,000 Democrats showed up at caucus sites, compared to 124,000 in 2004. About 114,000 Republicans turned out. The last contested Republican caucuses in 2000 drew about 88,000. George W. Bush, then the governor of Texas, won.

Mr. Huckabees populist appeal powered by support from evangelicals out-muscled a political operation that Mr. Romney spent more than a year building. Polls of Republicans entering the caucus sites found that nearly 60 percent described themselves as evangelical Christians, and by overwhelming numbers they said they intended to vote for Mr. Huckabee.
--snip--
There was also a sharp generational break in support of the two candidates. Mr. Obama was backed by 60 percent of voters under 25 while Mrs. Clinton was supported by about 45 percent of voters over 65.
Among Democrats, nearly half of respondents said that their top factor in choosing a candidate was someone who could bring about change; Mr. Obama won the support of about half that group. Just 20 percent said the right experience, Mrs. Clintons key argument, was the main factor; among that group, nearly half chose Mrs. Clinton...

Good luck getting those under-25s to actually vote in a real election, B. Hussein.
They think it's their duty to explain the "WHY" to us foolish "little people" We couldn't possibly understand the "significance" of the "who, what, where, when, how" of it all.
>Just 20 percent said the right experience, Mrs. Clintons key argument, was the main factor; among that group, nearly half chose Mrs. Clinton.
Breaking news: “In a two car race, our man came in second, and the opponent came in second to last.”
What kind of junior high reporting is that?
“Nearly half chose Mrs. Clinton” means more than half rejected her.
As of right now with 4 counties still unaccounted for:
Thompson: 14003
McCain: 13763
Wait till they hear the taxes they will have to pay for Hussein's socialist changes.

From time to time, Ill ping on noteworthy articles about politics, foreign and military affairs. FReepmail me if you want on or off my list.
He doesn’t have a lot of experience and without knowing much about his positions on the issues I’m sure I politically disagree with Obama on many (most?) things...but I appreciate that he seems like a positive person unlike his opponents. Hillary and Edwards just seem to be out for power and (especially in the case of Hillary) want to get even or something.
Thanks for the ping!
God help us.
Ho hum. Yawn
I don't know. If they're dedicated enough to go to the Caucus, I don't see why they can't go to the poll in November.
“An estimated 220,000 Democrats showed up at caucus sites... about 114,000 Republicans turned out.”
Ominous.
I’d be happy to meet either Osama or Clinton in the general election. Should be fun.
Young cowards came out in full force for Obama. Convinced that he would talk to anyone, such as Iran and Syria who support international terrorists, thus saving them from ever having to interrupt their selfish lives to serve their country in the military.
They were watching MTV during the last election when they were being bombarded with the slogan to “Vote or Die”, but they were too young. Now they have come of age and are voting on the only message that was ever directed straight at them.
Obama claims his candidacy is based on change and is not about fear. But the reality is that what we have seen in Iowa is fear looking for a change.
Hillary will win the Democrat nomination because Edwards is too self-centered to drop out. Hell stay in the race until the bitter end, splitting the anti-Hillary vote with Obama and helping her eek out a victory.
Why would someone who bothers to go to a time consuming and obtuse process like caucusing not show up for a general election?
The RATS should be very happy today...they won both parties!
Huckabee will never even come close in the general election. His dealings in Arkansas will come out by the MSM should he get the nom. Hope more people will see what the huckster is all about.
Mike Huckabee is Pat Buchanan in sheeps clothes. Same social positions, same economic populism, same trade protectionism, same global isolationism, same religious bigotry the only difference is Huckabee hates Mormons rather than Jews. The only difference besides outward demeanor between these two is Buchanan is anti-immigrant and Huckabee is pro-amnesty.
Both parties selected the easiest candidate to defeat in a national election. Once again the ethanol state voters have proven that the primary rules require change if we are to claim to be a democracy.
