We've both been here more or less 6 years, and I'm betting neither of us has seen the flame wars brewing here like during this primary season. Pretty amazing and sad (we're losing respected FReepers in the process. Hopefully they'll stew a bit and return home), however with no "heir apparent" to follow President Bush, we're left to boil down the pool of candidates until we get the right conservative. Everyone else is going to get scalded.

And yes, it's nasty. I've laughed to the point of hysterics at some of the verbal evisceration I've seen of the liberals on this forum. It's a terrible waste to see both our best and most base wordsmiths turning on each other. We'll need to pull together when it's over unless we really, really want a stalinist to win the White House come November.

And I'm not claiming innocent, either. I've ripped each of the candidates in turn. At one point I questioned the guy I supported (Thompson) and got shredded while screaming "I'M A FRIENDLY! HOLD FIRE!"

This contest is going to be bitter for the GOP no matter how it turns out who wins. We're so divided at this point. Hopefully the bruises will heal over the next 11 months. We need to win this one regardless of who the nominee is.

“We’ve both been here more or less 6 years, and I’m betting neither of us has seen the flame wars brewing here like during this primary season.”

There used to be War On Drugs threads that got very nasty, many people banned, many people leaving with Grand Opus posts. While the primaries have been hot, they are not the worst.

And as for the GOP being divided, I don’t think it’s all that bad. The message of the press is that they are divided, discouraged, and so forth, but I think that’s just to help their masters in the DNC.

Well, to some degree, it's the nature of the primary beast.

But secondly & more importantly, the GOP has also grown more values-liberal. Just as we saw this enormous gap between conservative values & liberal values open up in the late '60s, so it is the beginning of this same gap opening...If you don't recognize this, then you wind up just chalking up these flame wars to the flamers themselves...and that would, at least in part, be an incomplete take...some flamethrowers--at least the less substantive ones--are just onery & will flame away @ whatever's not in their own best interest...but others "flame" because of principled conservativism--a liberty in & of itself worth fighting for...

I know you & others are well-meaning, in the proper anti-Dem spirit. But frankly, there are some GOP candidates--namely Rudy & Mitt--who if nominated...would do greater long-term damage to the GOP if elected to the POTUS.

What's even more short-sited for the "short run" (meaning the period beyond the primary lasting til the general election) is the lack of comprehension about what would occur if nominees like these were put forward. If Rudy were nominated, pro-life & evangelicals would skip the POTUS portion of the ballot in droves...If Mitt is nominated...well, just wait til the MSM & Dem "presentations" of him are put into wide & consistent play...it'll be MSM fireworks & "track record pinball" (both social issues personal record & LDS historical record) like you've never seen...I mean, just imagine for one moment what an Obama-Romney match-up would look like...(Romney was an adult when the LDS church still excluded blacks from the priesthood on the basis of a proclaimed "cursed" skin color...reflecting a racist god behind their helm)
