I thought the time was right to start up a live thread for results and comments about tonight, so here we are!
*I expect Hunter will be making an announcement within the next few days.*
Wishing doesn’t make it so.
Hunter has been active campaigning in other states and in their primaries
Well, we’re not talking about institutionalizing a Christian requirement for office. That’s what you’re talking about. What we’re talking about here is “voter choice” — and that of a large enough segment of the population, so that a candidate cannot be elected to office without their support — and especially in the GOP.
So, if you extend the idea to institutionalizing it and making it a legal requirement and so on, then you’ve got a comparison to Iran. If you’re talking about a voter block that you cannot ignore or you won’t get elected — that’s something that the party better pay attention to — or they won’t be fielding any more winning candidates... LOL...
Oh..., and by the way, it doesn’t take a “majority” to win or *lose* an election. It only takes a significant group, that votes in a block and can “swing” the election one way or another. I think Evangelicals can very easily qualify as that kind of block that can *lose* an election for someone (or in a better framework) can win one...

Agree.
Great, thanks — I’ll follow up there.
You said — “Then you need to pay attention to the reason Quixs voice goes farther than yours.”
I’ll leave Quix’s voice to him. I’ve got mine... and if you like his better, I’m mystified as to why you’re still talking to me... LOL...

You need to try skipping some of those theology books and cult books and get back to the Word. He will help you see the truth. I believe Thompson is a Christian because he has done what the Bible says is necessary to become a brother in Christ. I’m sorry if you do not believe the Gospel. Hopefully, you will come to a better understanding of the Word soon.
Sincerely, petitfour
Interesting analysis at MyManMitt. Claims they got the number of votes they expected to get, but were swamped by the evangelical turnout. Points out that no place else in the world has 50% evangelicals, not even SC. (To which I'd add Freepers have claimed SC evangelicals were more open to logic. I hope the Freepers are right as they'll get a chance to prove it.) And claims they achieved 2 of their top 3 goals tonight, although obviously not the win one: Fred beating McCain (up 300 votes with 7% to go) and Obama winning so the NH independents would be drawn to his bandwagon instead of McCain's.
Sure it's spin, but at least it's reasonable, logical spin.
I sooooo agree with your post.
I believe he Jesus Freaks will be the death of the conservative party. I don’t give a rat’s ass what religion a politician is, as long as he has a long and proven track record on conservative practices.
And I too am familiar with the Christians you mention. They act like total dickheads six days a week, then think that a 40 minute sermon and $5 in the collection plate will bring them salvation. And I am familiar with the ‘doesn’t matter what we are talking about, I will find a way to ram scripture down your throat’ Christian. Quite frankly, as a Christian myself, it scares the crap out of me and angers me at the same time. Drinking that Jesus juice makes some lose all common sense and perspective.
I am of the belief that true Christians do not need to jump on a pulpit and witness every waking moment! They should be leading by example and making the rest want what they got and follow out of desire of God’s riches, not out of a bully pulpit or screaming from the rafters.
I would LOVE to have a true Christian in the White House. I do not wish for one badly enough to sacrifice the downfall of my country to get it, though.
Give me a true Constitutionalist over a bleeding heart religious freak any day. In the end, I would rather stand before God as an honest heart for the best of my country than put my self wants above all else.
You asked — “How does Thompson fail that and Huckabee pass that Christian test?”
Well, take a look up above where I go into what I heard from Thompson and what that means.
But, there may be some confusion here about being a Christian. This has nothing to do with politics or anything like that. It has nothing to do with whether someone is a Democrat or Republican. It has nothing to do with whether they are liberal or conservative.
A Christian is one simply on the basis of God’s free gift, His Son, Jesus Christ and what He has done for you. A person accepts the provision that Jesus Christ has accomplished per the “good news” — the Gospel, as it’s called in the Bible.
So, it’s like you’re saying that since Thompson may have a better political position (from the way you’re evaluating it) then you can’t see why he’s not a Christian and Huckabee is a Christian. But, politics and liberals or not — have absolutely nothing to do with it.
I think you’re having trouble separating politics and the criteria there — from Christianity and the criteria in that arena. They are not the same criteria. That seems to be hard for people to grasp...

Thanks very much for the link. That will help. You’d better believe I will be playing this up just a bit...
You said — “I believe Thompson is a Christian because he has done what the Bible says is necessary to become a brother in Christ.”
The trouble is that he doesn’t know what the Gospel or the “good news” is... If one doesn’t know what the Gospel is, one cannot choose to become a Christian. One cannot choose what they do not know. It’s that simple.

You’re very welcome... Just speaking my mind is all... :)
Meridith Willson knew his state well (his home county went Huck 545 McCain 379 Mitt 323 Fred 192 Paul 163 Rudy 77 Hunter 1) and laid this out in The Music Man:
Iowa Stubborn
Townspeople:
Oh, there's nothing halfway
About the Iowa way to treat you,
When we treat you
Which we may not do at all.
There's an Iowa kind of special
Chip-on-the-shoulder attitude.
We've never been without.
That we recall.
We can be cold
As our falling thermometers in December
If you ask about our weather in July.
And we're so by God stubborn
We could stand touchin' noses
For a week at a time
And never see eye-to-eye.
But what the heck, you're welcome,
Join us at the picnic.
You can eat your fill
Of all the food you bring yourself.
You really ought to give Iowa a try.
Provided you are contrary,
We can be cold
As our falling thermometer in December
If you ask about our weather in July.
And we're so by God stubborn
We can stand touchin' noses
For a week at a time
And never see eye-to-eye.
But we'll give you our shirt
And a back to go with it
If your crops should happen to die.
Farmer:
So, what the heck, you're welcome,
Glad to have you with us.
Farmer and Wife:
Even though we may not ever mention it again.
Townspeople:
You really ought to give Iowa
Hawkeye Iowa
Dubuque, Des
Moines, Davenport, Marshalltown,
Mason City, Keokuk, Ames,
Clear Lake
Ought to give Iowa a try!
Fred knows the Gospel. Fred knows Jesus. Fred is a Christian. He’s not perfect. But neither were the Apostles. Peter went so far as to deny knowing Jesus three times, and look what he did not long thereafter.
God chose Fred a long time ago. And Fred answered God’s call.
“But, there may be some confusion here about being a Christian.”
There is and it has to do with behavior, not words. The confusion is yours. Star Traveler, the Christobot.
Your self-righteousness blinds you to the true message.
I feel sorry for you.
Good Night.
Then why, oh, why are people touting that Huckabee is truly a Christian? Look at his record, look at the FRUITS of his labors... Don’t just listen to the WORDS he uses — the man is slick no doubt about it, but there is more to being a Christian than knowing all the right words to say.
If one truly looks for the L-rd he will find Him. And, there are those who despite claiming to know the L-rd will NOT be meeting up with us in Heaven, either...
Another thing I’d like to ask about; The two of you (you and StarTraveler) assume that Thompson has never accepted Christ as his L-rd and Savior... How in the WORLD would ANYONE know that besides the L-rd and Thompson himself? Honestly... How would you know, and who are you to assume you know this man’s heart? Only G-d knows his heart...
I can’t believe the two of you are falling for the words, and not looking past outward appearances frankly.
Thanks for the direct link to the Newsweek article. Very disturbing stuff there...
To say the least. All need to see this.
Well said.
Hello... is this Fred??
Don’t worry Fred..., you don’t have to post anonymously if you know the Gospel... LOL...
By the way, Fred..., don’t forget to mention Jesus in your message about salvation. And, Fred..., bone up a little bit more about the “good news” — Jesus would give you a failing grade on that one... and we don’t want to “go to the dark side” on that one, now do we...
