The latest news from Iowa? According to Zogby’s latest—and I quote: “Sen. Fred Thompson…has seen a late-breaking surge.” (Rich notes the same poll below.)
What’s going on here? My guess is that there are whole lot of Iowa Republicans who have about the same attitude that David Limbaugh displayed in his column yesterday:
Fred is the only [candidate] I don't have major reservations about….I find his lack of "fire in the belly" refreshing. He strikes me as one of the few presidential candidates since Ronald Reagan whose primary motivation is not personal aggrandizement but rather serving and leading the nation in very troubled and dangerous times. I see him as almost being drafted into this project, and his refusal to drool publicly over the prospect of becoming the most powerful man in the world is positively delightful.

The same kind that makes one obsess over the offensive scheme and quarterback selection of a pro football team that they’ve never played for or been employed by that plays in a city where they don’t live and is made up of players and coaches they’ve never met.

If by the ‘establishment’ you mean those who give big bucks..you are wrong. It’s Romney or Guiliani at this point.
I’m a Duncan Hunter Supporter from Minnesota, so I’m pretty irrelevant to everything presidential...but if Duncan withdraws from the race, Fred is my guy...
It would be best to have them both on the same ticket.

Yes. Emphasis on "ONE" in the "100 million plus." A false sense of importance is not a good sign.
Either these guys are serioius neurotics, a distinct possibility, or they are independent nuts or paid operatives politically dedicated to tormenting and destroying-from-within something they think is an enemy. Either way, the best thing to do is to pass their posts. Although sometimes they are fun to pick on!

I think it bodes well, but then I'm just a Fred supporter, not a campaign expert like others here.
I think they really want McCain but Guiliani and Romney are superstars. Just wait though. The press aren’t finished with the script for the dead of Huckabee and the resurrection of McCain.

YEP! I feel the same way about Fred. I hope you know it was penelope somebody who originally penned that criticism.
A significant number of Republicans will not vote for Rudy, Mitt, Mike or John, as evidenced by the level of passionate comments against these candidates in the blogosphere. Whether it’s 5% or 25% of total Republican votes, it will be enough to lose.
However, if Thompson is the nominee, all Republicans will vote for him, because he has no significant policy or ideological negatives. Thompson will unite the party like Reagan did, even bringing in many Reagan Democrats.
Fred is the best shot we have at keeping the White House.
