Polls have been wrong a lot...especially election day polls. Personally, I believe the Huckabee and Romney popularity is a media creation.

What’s the FR membership running right now? Really, I don’t know....couple hundred thousand? Couple million?

Hunter used to poll better on FR before they sneaked that "viable" thing in there, suggesting that he is the sentimental favorite of many.

Considering that the GOP once nominated hard-core conservatives like Goldwater & Reagan, it's sad that the alleged front-runners now are mostly Rockefeller types posing a something else. Whatever happened to all the conservatives who dominated the Republican Party in the Reagan & Gingrich years? I suspect that many were not really conservatives, but posed as such to ride Reagan's coattails and get into office. Once they get elected or appointed positions in govt., they began to show their true colors. That's exactly what is going to happen if Romney, Rudy, or McCain is elected.

I agree with you 100%. I had much rather have a candidate who has not been coveting the office of POTUS since she first laid eyes on a hippie from Arkansas. Fred is a candidate who has entered the race because he truly wants to serve his country.

I also voted for GWB (twice) and I, too, have not always agreed with him, but I will never regret voting for him. There are three major reasons - the way he has conducted the WOT, John Roberts, and Sam Alito.

I also remember his calm demeanor during the time that Al Gore was trying to steal the 2000 election. GW knew that he had won and that the Gore campaign was pulling out all the stops to cheat him out of his hard-fought victory, but I definitely got the feeling that it would not be the end of the world to him if Al Gore succeeded. He would have gone back to Crawford and lived to fight another day.

Fred strikes me as having the same healthy attitude toward being POTUS. He thinks he’s the best one for the job, but, if the American people decide otherwise, he will go back to enjoying life with his wife and family.

Fred Thompson is a great guy. I like him as an actor and originally supported him as a candidate even giving money to his campaign. But then I saw footage of him putting an old man to sleep and asking for his own applause and him skipping campaign events and I had to make a judgement call. Do I support a Christian who can win (Huckabee) or a Christian who may not even want to win and hand the election to a Clinton the same way Bob Dole and George H.W. did? I am in the military and this is my next boss I am voting for.

Honestly, I think they cull regular conservative voters from the polls.

Not one member of my large conservative family has ever been polled. We just get the phony polls where they’re really calling for money.

I think you’re right. I was talking to a friend today, who had voted for McCain absentee already. When I explained why I couldn’t vote For McCain: Amnesty, Taxes, Gang of 14, Feingold, global warming etc. He had no idea. He said that he wished he could get his ballot back and had only voted for him because of his military service. The sad thing is that a lot of people are picking candidates without any understanding of where they stand on the issues, or their political record.

Senator Herb (Confirmed Bachelor with More Money Than God So He’ll Always be Re-Elected until Death, D, WI) Kohl.

And many, many CongressCritters from either side of the aisle currently in jail for various and sundry corruptions while in office.

Unfortunately, the vast unwashed masses don’t spend much time watching cable news shows, Freepeing or living in the beltway. They get their views fed to them in soundbites by a biased media and an active entertainment industry. They also are influenced by unions and educators.

You are so right. Sometimes I will speak with people who are every bit as conservative as we are yet know nothing about Free Republic and get their news from CNN or 6 o'clock news. They don't spend much time thinking about politics and spend their time on other matters.

I’m a hardcore Christian. You cannot vote for someone just because they are a Christian. I made that mistake once before - Carter. Huckabee is simply not conservative in too many areas.
