Opposition leader Benazir Bhutto has been critically injured after a suspected suicide attack at a political rally in Pakistan.
It was believed to be a suicide attackShe is undergoing emergency surgery at a nearby hospital, Sky News sources say.
The explosion went off just after Ms Bhutto left the rally in Rawalpindi, minutes after her speech to thousands of people.
When the United States goes to war (if that ever happens again) we need THE ENTIRE GOVERNMENT to go to war, too.
That means a wartime consigliere at State, among other things.
I was involved in the 2002-03 smallpox rapid response fiasco, and I can tell you that every official of Federal or State governments I dealt with spoke, and acted, as if Bush was a bigger enemy than Bin Laden.
The military can't fight a war alone.
“...a targeted assassination is NOT the hallmark of AQ.”
I beg to differ...remember Massoud who was killed on 9/9/01.
that’s their MO in Iraq
Interesting. Thanks for link.
Oh man...I knew something like this would happen sooner or later. Prayers for Pakistan, it is the most troubled country out there, in my opinion.
I’m going to blame AQ/Taliban before I blame Musharraf. Terrorists are always first on my list of suspects. AQ targeted her once and they missed. Makes sense if you’re them to try again....
Bin Laden denounces the Pak govt, and Musharraf and his aides have been targeted in asssassination attempts. He’s next, but I pray they will be unsuccessful....
I disagree about a total breakdown. Musharaff will move fast, and there will be some arrests before the funeral IMO.
I don't see a civil war or anything like it. Mansoor has been mostly wrong on everything, and I don't put much stock in his opinions anylonger. I did once however, but no longer.
Bolton calling for ‘quiet consultations’ with Musharraf.
This was a well planned and run hit. There is a report of TWO shooters and a bomber doing the deed....that took planning and skill to get them in close.
Should elements of the military/security forces begin to switch sides, then it is over. I don’t expect that to happen anytime soon, but it is a possibility.
Interesting analysis. Thanks for sharing.
She came out of the car and just then two attackers with AK 47s pumped her with bullets, one in the neck and two in the head. After shooting, a third attacker blew himself up near Benazir's car
Why did that car stopped and why did she get out?
Yes .. you're right this was a very planned and very complex attack
Theocracy has not yet been disproven. More importantly, Scripture reveals mankind will prevail throughout a millennial reign of a very real theocracy, which will be the most productive and fruitful living in human history. But even after a 1000 years of such a reign, mankind will still turn away from God to follow a counterfeit.
I would agree with you that those who seek to substitute a worldly system of governance based upon faith in man and his constructs instead of through faith in what God provides are also likely to create a religion of their own making. Such a counterfeit worldly attempt at paradise does result in considerable arrogance, intolerance, and cruelty to those who are innocent and faithful.
Open mouth insert smelly Clinton jack-ass hoof.
"On 18 December 1987 she married Asif Ali Zardari in Karachi. The couple had three children: Bilawal, Bakhtwar, and Aseefa."
IMO, This attack is has HUGE ramifications
Nice try at painting Western countries with the same brush. That works only with the ignorant. Your choice of word, "ideology", further attemps to confound religion and politics, the mainstay of islam.
Islam just happens to be the only so-called religion which embraces murder and mayhem as its proselytizers of choice. One needs to be ignorant, deaf and dumb to be unable to make the distinctions.
“RIP to a brave, brave woman”
I lift her up to God. If ever there was a woman who knew her time was coming, and faced it with courage, it was Benazir Bhutto. When I think of the women of Islam enslaved, I remember Benazir Bhutto and remember the millions of women who have not accepted the yolk of oppression willingly. May Bhutto be avenged - not through mindless violence and chaos, but by the freedom of her sisters in a democratic and safe Pakistan...
Thanks, jeffers, for the comprehensive view.
But, but, Bhutto was a close, dear friend.
Guess he forgot about the assassination of Ahmad Shah Massoud
