Opposition leader Benazir Bhutto has been critically injured after a suspected suicide attack at a political rally in Pakistan.
It was believed to be a suicide attackShe is undergoing emergency surgery at a nearby hospital, Sky News sources say.
The explosion went off just after Ms Bhutto left the rally in Rawalpindi, minutes after her speech to thousands of people.
I hate to dignify that idiotic statement with a reply, but I'm compelled.
IMPOTENT (sp), al Qaeda is NOT. Especially in Pakistan. Showing their lethality and reach in a country where they have a 48% approval rating, benefits them greatly, while HURTING the Mush, GREATLY!!!
AQ is not impotent in Pak and have everything to gain by disrupting the elections. They need to recreate the taliban and that ain’t going to happen in Trashcanistan.
They already own much of Northern Pak and now want to take over the remaining. Bhutto would have stabilized the Country and now they have a chance. This was certainly AQ. The same ones who attack Musharraf 4-5 times a year.
Pray for W and Our Troops
I feel bad for her, she took great personal risk coming back. May the true Lord have mercy on her and her family.
Worst case scenario means history books may refer to it as akin to the assassination of ArchDuke Franz Ferdinand of the the Habsburg Empire.
But, how convenient for Mush. His main rival eliminated, in Rawalpindi, a military garrison city of all places. A city where you can’t spit without hitting a serving or retired military officer.
The US will not press for elections now nor will any investigations take place into the diversion of US funds by the Pak Army and the ISI.
On a brighter side, after a few days of riots and mayhem, things will calm down. Musharraf will mount a white horse and prove to the US, that he is, at least for now, indispensable and there is no other horse that the US can put its money on.
Talk about Osama being protected by Pakistan will disappear and the world will breathe a sigh of relief that we have a strongman to keep things in line in Pakistan.
How nice and convenient of TehrikeTaliban to perpetuate a killing that benefits the man who would have lost the upcoming election, assuming it wasn’t fixed like all the others where he won overwhelming majorities.
Inshallah. Now send us more money or the Talibs will take over.
The Song remains the same.
Thompson statement coming up on Fox.
I saw that earlier on FOX and the only explanation was that the hit took place further down the road. Never an explanation as to how she was shot, whether inside or outside the vehicle.
You are right on target.
You said — “... and they have to suspect AQ was the killer.”
Well, they have to “suspect” no longer, since al Qaida has claimed responsibility for the Bhutto assassination, saying that she was a “tool of the west” and they were intent on eliminating her.

Me too.
I saw a picture of her standing up in the SUV with her upper body exposed captioned as seconds before the shooting.
I’m in L.A. TV news just reported that CA Air National Guard patrols our skies. I observe numerous contrails at the moment, as every day.
Musharraf has everything to gain and now does not have to face election.
They’re coming for you next, libs.
Excellent summary! As you mentioned before the muslims had their chance to leave hindu India completely and move to a totally muslim country -- Pakistan. But many millions of these fanatics elected to stay in India and keep causing trouble because of their designs on the rest of India.
Thompson sounding very knowledgable on Pakistan and what needs to be done in that area.
I’m listening to Sky News

There is a guy on that says he witnessed it .. he says that after the car drove off down the road .. she got out of the car to waive and greeted some people and that was when she was shoot and then the guy blew himself up
no mention of a car
Not sure how accurate this is .. just repeating what he said
As long as there is religious intolerance and religious persecution anywhere in the world, there will never be peace. Islam is the leading intolerant ideology, but by no means the only one. Theocracies are the cruelest form of government.
Where is NOW to condemn this act?
Nobody. Some may imagine this advances their cause, but it doesn't.
The big question that raises - how did the shooter/bomber KNOW where or that she would even stop in that location? Leads to there being someone on the inside of her entourage giving him instructions as to where to be and when.
