Musharraf doesn’t have the popular support to continue his government/military rule. Bhutto brings popular support and represents the power elite “feudals”. Bhutto agreed to assist us in finding and exterminating al Qaeda once she was in power.

Ah...so not necessarily a diversion, just missed with the bomb so they had a backup shooter(s).
Musharaf doesn't always play so nice, but he and Karzai just spoke the other day and both pledged to maintain peace and keep up the fight against taliban and al-Quaida along the shared border. Bhutto seemed more of a moderate though, as is/was her opposition group.
