Global Warming Will Save America from the Right...Eventually
baltimorechronical.com ^ | 12/22/07 | Dave Lindorff

Posted on 12/26/2007 5:36:29 PM PST by melt

Say what you will about the looming catastrophe facing the world as the pace of global heating and polar melting accelerates. There is a silver lining.

Look at a map of the US.

The area that will by completely inundated by the rising ocean—and not in a century but in the lifetime of my two cats—are the American southeast, including the most populated area of Texas, almost all of Florida, most of Louisiana, and half of Alabama and Mississippi, as well as goodly portions of eastern Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina. While the northeast will also see some coastal flooding, its geography is such that that aside from a few projecting sandbars like Long Island and Cape Cod, the land rises fairly quickly to well above sea level. Sure, Boston, New York and Philadelphia will be threatened, but these are geographically confined areas that could lend themselves to protection by Dutch-style dikes. The West Coast too tends to rise rapidly to well above sea level in most places. Only down in Southern California towards the San Diego area is the ground closer to sea level.

So what we see is that huge swaths of conservative America are set to face a biblical deluge in a few more presidential cycles.

Then there’s the matter of the Midwest, which climate experts say is likely to face a permanent condition of unprecedented drought, making the place largely unlivable, and certainly unfarmable. The agribusinesses and conservative farmers that have been growing corn and wheat may be able to stretch out this doomsday scenario by deep well drilling, but west of the Mississippi, the vast Ogallala Aquifer that has allowed for such irrigation is already being tapped out. It will not be replaced.

So again, we will see the decline and depopulation...

Needs barf alert. Projectile actually.

Nah, its more humorous then nauseating. It needs a label implying that it is so ridiculous it would embarrass a typical liberal.

Let ‘Dave’ live with people like the killer he keeps trying to defend, Mumia.

******

Dave Lindorff is the author of Killing Time: an Investigation into the Death Row Case of Mumia Abu-Jamal.

Dave Lindorff is co-author, with Barbara Olshansky, of The Case for Impeachment: The Legal Argument for Removing President George W. Bush from Office

******

Tell both sides of Mumia story

It might be OK for The Inquirer to promote the new book Murdered by Mumia by police widow Maureen Faulkner and Inquirer columnist Michael Smerconish by running excerpts day after day - if there were some critical context (”A widow speaks,” Dec. 2). But you didn’t even bother to send a reporter to a Dec. 4 news conference that offered new evidence about the fairness of the trial and about whether Mumia Abu-Jamal, who has now spent 26 years on death row for the killing of Police Officer Daniel Faulkner, is even guilty of the crime. In fact, the only “news” article you’ve written regarding the book was an alleged scoop from its pages, also presented one-sidedly (”Widow links Street to Abu-Jamal case,” Dec. 2).

Faulkner condemns actors such as the late Ossie Davis for speaking out in favor of a new trial, and for refusing to “allow the legal process to run its course.” Actually, she and her allies, the Fraternal Order of Police, have hardly been letting the legal process “run its course.”

Faulkner continues to press for Abu-Jamal’s death, even though a federal judge has overturned his death sentence as having been the result of legal errors and wrong instructions from the trial judge. It is she who is not letting the legal process run its course.

The Inquirer is failing in its duty to present both sides of this story.

This is Dave Lindorff, a Wesleyan University alumnus ('71) and author of "This Can't be Happening!" Dave was a fantastic find and we look forward to having him as a guest on the radio show. Interesting fact: Dave got married at Wesleyan, in a maple tree on Foss Hill.

On August 29th, 2004, (Aaron, Russ, Josh, and Jordan) took to the streets of New York City to capture the mood of the hundreds of thousands of people who came out in opposition to the Republican National Convention.

War in Iraq: Crimes & Lies
Dave Lindorff

On Friday, January 13th, 2006, David Lindorff, a U.S. investigative journalist and writer, and Maurizio Torrealta, an Italian journalist with RAINEWS24, made a presentation to about seventy-five (75) people at an event organized by U.S. Citizens for Peace and Justice-Rome and the coalition of Rome peace groups, Romacittapertallapace. “Voices from the other America, Voices from the other Italy” was held at the Casa delle Culture in Trastevere. This was one of the first events of a new campaign entitled “Crimini e Bugie” (Crimes and Lies) whose intent is to inform the public about the crimes and lies, both U.S. and Italian, surrounding the war in Iraq and mobilize for two important dates, the vote for renewal of the Italian mission in Iraq in late January or early February and the International Day of Protest set for March 18.

Lindorff acknowledged that the mainstream media, both television and newspapers, was not showing the horrible images of war like it did during the Vietnam era. The American people are not seeing the body bags (2,000 and more) arriving back home. They are not seeing the decimated bodies of civilian victims of white phosphorous on their TV’s or the cover page of their local newspapers. He suggested that the internet is playing a role in keeping people informed and this needs to increase. Lindorff also mentioned that the peace movement has been reactivated, gave credit to the creativity of Cindy Sheehan and the Camp Casey efforts, and described a grassroots initiative that travels around the country with a pair of boots for each serviceperson lost in Iraq and how this was having an impact on public opinion.

If the red states ceased to be, the Republicans would have to move to blue states. The blue states would become... purple? One would think this would be a bad thing for liberals.

This seems like a way lefty source. Why bother with it?

About Baltimore News Network, Inc.

IN 1989, Baltimore News Network, Inc. (BNN), a nonprofit corporation, was established by a group of concerned citizens who believe that the mainstream media offer a narrow perspective of the news. Too frequently these news sources ignore or trivialize progressive or alternative viewpoints.

Dave Lindorff: People Power Forces Corporate Media to
do the Right Thing

A massive outpouring of angry mail and phone calls to the nation’s leading newspapers led to editors calling Congress members Robert Wexler (D-FL), Luis Gutierrez (D-IL), and Tammy Baldwin (D-WI), after having turned down an op-ed by the three calling for immediate hearings on the impeachment of Vice President Dick Cheney.

At least one of those papers, the Miami Herald, which is in Rep. Wexler’s Congressional district, reversed itself and decided to run an edited version of the editorial it had rejected only days earlier.
