Thompson Campaign Looks To Peak As Primaries Near
WSMV-TV ^ | December 24, 2007 | Marc Stewart

Decrease In Polls Not Deterring Former Senator's Campaign. Some presidential polls have former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson lagging behind in the final weeks before the primaries. His political advisors said he is getting ready for what could be the most critical weeks in his bid for the White House.

Thompson's campaign leaders said he has a strategic move to peak right before the Iowa caucuses next week. But some political observers said he has a lot of work in front of him.

Recent polls have shown Christian conservative Mike Huckabee leading the pack of Republicans, so Thompson must go after undecided voters, according to political scientist Bruce Oppenheimer.

"Given the number of people who have not made up their mind in Iowa, there could be a sudden move to a given candidate, the question is whether that will be Fred Thompson?" said Vanderbilt Political Scientist Bruce Oppenheimer.

Thompson's team said the campaign will make its biggest splash ever next week and it won't be by accident.

"It's been his strategy all along to peak at the right time. He didn't want to peak a month ago. These other people peaked a month or two ago and they're all falling down," said Thompson fundraiser Scooter Clippard.

The big question is: Can Thompson do it?

"It's not quite waiting for lightning to strike, but it's getting increasing close to that," said Oppenheimer.

A strong finish in Iowa isn't just about support in a single state. What happens there will determine the future of the presidential race.

"You will see after Iowa, and after New Hampshire and after South Carolina, some of the candidacies disappear. I think that's the real question. The whole nature of the game changes as a number of candidates reduce in the field," said Oppenheimer.

Thompson will also need a lot of money to stay in the race.

He doesn't have a big war chest compared to some of his other Republican candidates. However, Thompson's campaign managers said they've received strong Internet donations in addition to fundraisers.

The Iowa caucuses will be held on Jan. 3 for both the Republicans and Democrats.

“Thompson makes me gag on my first amend words” I think McCainFeingold is an outrage. OTOH, Fred has conceded it was probably a mistake. (To behonest—I think everyone including the President, assumed the Supreme Court would rule it unconstitutional and last term the Court certainly did back off one part of it.)

The Iowa caucuses will be held on Jan. 3 for both the Republicans and Democrats.

No offense to Iowans but the Iowa caucus is irrelevant with respect to picking the GOP nominee.

The southern primaries will be the deciding factor in giving the nomination to the only GOP candidate who can beat the socialists.

That would be Fred Thompson, the next POTUS.

You mean like Ron Paul’s grassroots supporters did, raising 4 million + in one day in November and 6 million + in one day in December?

Yes, people can by their own initiative can put together their own fund raisers for Fred.

They can stand on street corners and wave signs, they can create and distribute lit, they can get lists of voters and write letters to them.

Fred’s supporters can do a lot to help Fred out.

Fred isn’t my first choice, but him and Hunter are 2 and 3 (I liked Tancredo as well) and I’d like to see Huckabee, Giuliani and Romney go as quickly as possible.

If someone wanted to help Fred in Iowa, they’d pm the county dude and offer to help him round up caucus supporters.

Im flumoxed—Thompson makes me gag on my first amend words. He does not like them.

YOU'RE flummoxed! What about ME? I can't figure out what you are getting at with this.

Really - I don't get it. Are these the "first amend words" you are referring to:

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances."

If so, what part of these do you think "he does not like"?

And why would you think such a thing? Surely you aren't referring to CFR? Thompson has already and long since said his support of that legislation was a mistake. And besides, it wasn't just Thompson, all on his lonesome, that got that piece of crap enacted into law. A majority of Senators and Representatives voted for it in a Republican controlled Congress, if memory serves. And never forget that George W. Bush signed it. Laying this at the feet of Fred Thompson involves a bit of bad history.

Fred’s going to need money and LOTS of it to compete in the southern primaries. Doing well in Iowa and then building on that in South Carolina will greatly enhance the cash flow.

You need to keep track of the addresses for later reference. Never previously have so many moonbats publicly revealed their presence/locations.

That’s great. Two questions for you if I may.
#1. How is it looking for Fred in your County and
#2. Does Fred have any foot soldiers there?

I hope Fred’s got something great planned for next week.

If ONLY the Iowa voters could realize Huckabee is a huge phony. He is using his Christianity as a weapon to TRICK people with.

Everyone who can, donate to Fred! I’ve done so 2x in the past week and will do so again soon.

Can someone tell me what percentage of the time this so-called (self proclaimed) political scientists are correct in their predictions?? Seems to me like their percentages are pretty low.

Huckabee is Bill Clinton with an even bigger Bible.

That would be Romney.

This quadruple combination is made with top-grain
leather covers, lightweight acid-free paper, gilded page sd
edges, ribbon markers and thumb-indexing. The quadruple combination
includes the LDS edition of the King James Version of the
Bible, the Book of Mormon, the Doctrine and Covenants, and
the Pearl of Great Price bound in one book. It contains
cross-references to all the standard works, the Topical
Guide, the Bible Dictionary, an index to the triple
combination, two sections of maps and pictures, and footnote
references to the Joseph Smith Translation.

IMHO

ARG's poll appears to be a robo-phone poll(a recording does the questions), same for Zogby (zogby #s are old 12/01). Strategic appears to be done by a live person over a 3 day period. It seems that the robo-polls would be the least accurate.

I seem to get polled all the time because I am what is called a high propensity Rep voter (puts me in the most likely category) When a live person calls to conduct the poll, I always participate and give honest and solid answers. Can't say the same for the robo-polls.

What still amazes me is that all the pols including Fred went for it.

The president campaigned in 2000 saying he was against it.

Then he signed it.

What gives?

Some dealing with John McCain to get along?

Did they all want to keep McCain’s diaper dry by supporting it?

Are they still trying to do it now?

Is McCain the designated GOP candidate with everyone else splitting the vote to let him through?
