MEDIA FIREWORKS: MCCAIN PLEADS WITH NY TIMES TO SPIKE STORY
Thu Dec 20 2007 10:56:57 ET
Just weeks away from a possible surprise victory in the primaries, Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz has been waging a ferocious behind the scenes battle with the NEW YORK TIMES, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned, and has hired DC power lawyer Bob Bennett to mount a bold defense against charges of giving special treatment to a lobbyist!
McCain has personally pleaded with NY TIMES editor Bill Keller not to publish the high-impact report involving key telecom legislation before the Senate Commerce Committee, newsroom insiders tell the DRUDGE REPORT.
The paper's Jim Rutenberg has been leading the investigation and is described as beyond frustrated with McCain's aggressive and angry efforts to stop any and all publication.
MORE
The drama involves a woman lobbyist who may have helped to write key telecom legislation.
The woman in question has retained counsel and strongly denies receiving any special treatment from McCain.
Rutenberg, along with reporter David Kirkpatrick, has been developing the story for the last 6 weeks.
Rutenberg had hoped to break the story before the Christmas holiday, sources reveal, but editor Keller expressed serious reservations about jounalism ethics and issuing a damaging story so close to an election.
McCain campaign officials Rick Davis, Charlie Black and Mark Salter are also said to have met with the NEW YORK TIMES in an effort to halt publication.

McCain: The only Republican among the Keating 5
Um, okay. Except that isn’t really fully ‘established’. Just rumored. Secondly, if you read what Drudge says carefully, you’ll note the apprehension about publishing the story, as well as the curious fact that the lobbyist has also strongly denied any special treatment, which says to me that it’s really related to something else other than influence peddling.
It’s all speculation of course, but so is the stuff about it being Hillary. The two stories do seem to match up to me.
Thank you.
It’s yet to be proven any of those angles are true. I never paid much attention to Drudge but he isn’t raising my opinion of him with these rumor stories.
I think the sort of “special treatment” they’re talking about here is where you get a no-bid contract or a chunk of federal funding without having to leap through the usual hoops.
I just don’t get a “sex scandal” out of what’s been reported.
McCain is a leftist media prostitute. They would LOVE to have him as the Republican candidate.
That way the public can choose between Hillery and Hillery light.
Yeah.
This story has Mitt’s finger prints all over it.
And these guys are civil SERVANTS? Now I can fully understand why these people can’t identify with the average American people. They tell us to conserve energy but what do they do? We have yet to use our heat to save money! No carbon credits so that we can use all the energy we want!
“Its yet to be proven any of those angles are true.”
That’s true. However, if Mr. McCain has retained the services of Mr. Bennett, then he is taking the story extremely seriously.
I find this bit of double-talk especially amusing:
“McCain acknowledged that his presidential campaign aides have had discussions with the newspaper regarding its inquiries.
“’I have not been in talks with The New York Times. They’ve been communicating with our staff and with us,’ McCain said.”
From: http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=D8TLB7JO1&show_article=1
He acknowledges discussions with the New York Times, but disclaims talks with the New York Times.
That’s not Drudge speaking, that’s a quote from the Senator himself.
ROFLMAO!!!

“I just dont get a 'sex scandal' out of whats been reported.”
At this point, it’s just speculation. But here’s the hint form Drudge’s report:
“The drama involves a woman lobbyist who may have helped to write key telecom legislation.
“The woman in question has retained counsel and strongly denies receiving any special treatment from McCain.”

McCain isdone. Stick a fork in the old coot.
The drama involves a woman lobbyist who may have helped to write key telecom legislation.
The woman in question has retained counsel and strongly denies receiving any special treatment from McCain.
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Perhaps I have a dirty mind, I guess. When I hear a politician is accused of wrongdoing with a female lobbyist who also denies any ‘special treatment’, the first thing that pops into my mind is some sort of relationship or sex scandal. Also, hiring Clinton’s sex scandal lawyer is another tipoff.
Who knows...not I, but it does kind of seem to fit together to me. The part about them not wanting to report on it really was what brought the whole ‘secret sex scandal’ thing to mind in the first place.
The story I heard was the first wife was in a bad accident coming back from a POW/MIA fund raising event. She had been very active in the POW/MIA movement. When McCain returned home his wife was disabled. Somewhere along the way he met the heiress. Not sure if it was before or after he divorced his first wife.
I wonder if this is the “sitting senator” rumor that has been swirling around.
BWA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!
Sure, McLame was on the verge of vaulting over Rudy, Mitt, Fred, and Mike. And monkeys might fly out of my butt.
I went to www.ask.com and put in “mccain wife disabled” and got the following in the first link:
“McCain dumped his first wife after she had been disabled in an auto accident. Although this woman had worked tirelessly to get him released from captivity, he did not hesitate to betray her with other women upon finding her crippled when he returned home.”
I goes on to talk about her family and drug problems. Her family is one of the richest in Arizona. Ol John did alright for himself!
Could be.
"Special treatment" doesn't have to be of a sexual nature, you know.
Not saying it isn't, just that it doesn't have to be.
