In addition to raising auto fuel efficiency standards 40 percent, an energy bill passed by Congress yesterday bans the incandescent light bulb by 2014.
President Bush signed the 822-page measure into law today after it was sent up Pennsylvania Avenue in a Toyota Prius hybrid vehicle. The House passed the bill by a 314-100 vote after approval by the Senate last week.

“822-page measure” to give Edison the boot?
Used a lot of paper to save the planet didn’t they?

Only if you work for Cargill or Perdue or other trash chicken producers.

Gee, George... thanks, once again, for making me regret ever voting for your utterly useless self (twice!).
I HATE those florescent bulbs. I will NOT have light bulbs filled with mercury in my house that require a hazmat team and thousands of dollars of government mandated clean-up if (no, make that WHEN) I break one of them.
What friggin’ RIGHT does the damn government have to ban a harmless product anyway? Because that deranged, ambulatory hunk of blubber known as Algore claims that Edison’s invention is heating up the Earth and we’re all gonna die?
Screw that, screw you, George, for signing this, and screw the nanny state Congress for thinking it up (if you call that THINKING) in the first place.

These people need to do some research before passing dopey bills.
Never! They have been elected. That means they are now experts on everything.

I'm all for any technology advancing, but this is is nothing more than jack-booted authoritarian horseshit. Any time these sub-simian cretins find a way to stick their beaks into the essence of our existence, they do it. I have seen nothing under Article I, Section 8 of the United States Constitution that authorizes these bottom-feeders to ban Jack Squat.

They banned a light bulb? Whew, I’m glad I can sleep soundly tonite again knowing that my public servants are looking out for my best interests and safety.
Glad our federal and state officials are taking care of those important things like banning guns, cigarette smoking, light bulbs, taxing soft drinks, taking more of my money, sending jobs overseas, allowing our country to be overtaken by illegals.
Sweet dreams everyone.
