Tom Tancredo has scheduled a press conference in Des Moines tomorrow afternoon to make a "major announcement regarding the campaign," according to a media advisory his campaign sent out today.
Asked whether Tancredo intended to drop out of the race, his congressional spokesman, TQ Houlton, said he didn't know. But Houlton didn't affirm that Tancredo was staying in and directed calls to the campaign.
A campaign spokesman didn't immediately reply to an email or voice mail.
Tancredo will appear at the Des Moines Marriott tomorrow at 2:00 Central, according to the advisory.
Despite the fervor Iowa Republicans have over Tancredo's pet issue, immigration, the Colorado congressman has not seen a commensurate bump in the polls. And even though he's run a couple of provocative ads warning about the security threat of illegal immigration, his numbers have remained in the low single-digits.
Perhaps most notably, Tancredo's close friend, Rep. Steve King, passed over his colleague and threw his support behind Fred Thompson this week. King and Tancredo have worked closely on immigration and many in Iowa thought King would not endorse as long as Tancredo was in the race.
A source close to King said they knew of the press conference for tomorrow but didn't know what Tancredo would announce.
..I’ve been waiting for this for months—his supporters IMHO should naturally turn to DH...
Actually many of us have been quite active - giving, visiting GOP HQ with campaign materials, calling PCOs, updating lists, etc.
If he does not endorse Hunter (assuming he is dropping out) that will be quite irritating.
I don't know much about Steve King either but the idea here is that if we lived in Iowa we would know about Steve King.
Give me a break, will ya?
That’s not what I mean. But it’s good.
I suppose so.
Tanc is a good guy and he’s doing the right thing by getting out.
Sure. Be happy to. Ask pissant. I'm not against Hunter. He's just not my candidate. I'm just playing off your obvious combativeness (or frustration), or, whatever you want to call it.
I'm not trying to be snarly; really.
No frustration here; just amazement at the people that really want change don’t do it.
Hunter is an individual and we have had to few of those as POSTUS. And I am not saying he won’t work with others. He will.
As I said to pissant earlier, I understand your frustration. But the simple fact is, Hunter isn't going anywhere. Look upthread at the post listing the states Hunter has failed to register in.
Don't misunderstand us. We WANT change. We just see different ways of achieving it. And one of those ways is backing a candidate who shows pollable potential, and displays good conservative credentials. Maybe they don't seem (to you) as legitimate as those of your candidate, but they are legitimate and worth consideration. And so here we are.
You didn’t hear a word I said
Oh, alright. I'm a complete dunderhead. Sorry for bothering you.
You are only a danderhead when you put me in a box and pat me on the head with all the useless excuses why a good man like Hunter can’t win.
“What youre going to end up with is another RINO. Just like Arnuld.”
That’s their goal....especially if they are pushing for Huckleberry or Rudy McRomneyson.
You are only a d[u]nderhead when you pat me on the head with all the useless excuses why a good man like Hunter CAN win.
There. Two dunderheads. Now, does that make you feel better?
I didn't put you in a box. You did that. I was a Hunter supporter but discovered early on he wasn't going anywhere. I made the transition. You haven't. I'm for Fred. You're not. Instead of lashing out, learn to take a little sympathetic treatment by folks who mean well.
Tancredo should endorse Duncan Hunter.
Yes, indeed he should. Seems to be likely to me as well.
Dunderhead, danderhead. Who cares. You did put me in a box.
You just sweep Hunter under the rug because you think he can’t win. Just keep following the leader and you will get the same old bs.
Here’s my opinion:
Tancredo (and King) are happy with Fred’s campaign positions, and his immigration plan...which could have been written by Tom for all we know.
Tanc will bow out, and endorse Fred.
