Thanks Blam and Renfield.
"[The discovery of the wall] changes the landscape [of Luxor]," said Mansour Boraik, general supervisor of the Supreme Council of Antiquities in Luxor. The discovery of the wall also challenges conventional thinking about the temple's ancient facade, Boraik said... Zahi Hawass, secretary general of Egypt's Supreme Council of Antiquities and a National Geographic Explorer-in-Residence... [said] "This embankment is very important because it protected the Temple [at] Karnak from the [annual] Nile flood."
I just love Egyptian hyperbole.

And I would settle for a nickel for everytime I have read the following statement:

"It really gives us pause when we make certain assumptions and then find out they are completely wrong."

Ramp led right down to the water? Taharqa probably arrived by boat, did his sacrifices etc, then left by boat. He was a busy man. :’)

what you dont see behind the camera is a giant ghetto called cairo.

I've heard from others who've been there that the tourist brochures hide all the stalls, poverty, and filth that surround the pyramids. The photos make it look all isolated.

Going to Cairo is one the things I’d like to do (several time) before I die.
