I write this Tuesday night from Waterloo, Iowa and I just finished attending a Fred Thompson campaign event. Folks, this is a very different Fred Thompson I saw compared to his rollout in September.
The expectations are gone. The slow start is a distant memory. It has been replaced by a much more crisp, energetic, focused stump speech. The crowd seemed more engaged and rowdy and Thompson had the enthusiasm to match.
He comes out at the beginning of the event an starts cracking jokes like this one:
It was getting so cold in Washington that the politicians have their hands in their own pockets.
Or this one:
Its wonderful to be in Waterloo and I aint here to play the role of Napoleon.
Then he proclaims hes the conservative horse in the race and says energetically, Saddle me up
Now, it would be at this point in September where he would begin to ramble a little bit and lose focus. Not this time. Fred Thompson is on top of his game. No rambling. Hes focused on substance and determined to prove hes the logical conservative choice. But hes doing it all with a smile on his face. He seems very comfortable up there and hes having fun.
Thompson told the crowd, I know who I am and I know what I believe. This statement is at the heart of his campaign. Thompson has always marched to his own tune. The song in December of 2007 sounds harmonious.
Hopefully Huckabee’s surge will diminish and take Romney with it. And Fred will get the votes previously intended for these two RINOs.
Tonight on Hannity’s show he points out Iowa and Republican winners, even goes back to 1980. He’s was prepared, they were’nt.
“Howdy, would you all like to vote for a conservative now...”
It saves money and keeps the hands clean to a certain extent.
Christians sure are retards, hm?
Can’t stop yourself from your anti-Christian bigotry, hm?
Look at the comment I just made. That’s how to be winsome and effective. Not through your anti-Christian bigotry.
Fred would never use something another candidate has done. Heeelllllooooo!
I am cautiously optimistic.
Now hammer them, Fred.
Exactly . Fred is one of the few remaining old-school players ...
Christians don’t support everyone who uses the name of Jesus. Just watch the MSM and you hear His name used as an exclamation all the time. In fact, its more acceptable to use His name than the F word. Interesting, eh?
Fred needs to show himself to be the conservative alternative to the Huckster. I wish him well. But if someone doesn’t emerge soon, we will be stuck with a Guilani-Huckabee ticket.
But you only have to go back to 1988 to find a third place finisher who went on to win it all.....GHW Bush.
Had to DVR Hannity. Last time Hannity pulled a fast one on Fred when Hannity Engineered the Dobson vs. Thompson fiasco. Hannity still obviously supporting Rudy I suppose.
We’ll see.
Thanks for the report! I can’t wait to see him when he gets down here to Florida! Saw Fred this evening on Fox on H&C, and he was great per usual! GO FRED! :)
I did not that SHE had a helicopter. Who gave it to HER or did SHE just take it? I thought that SHE flew in on a broom.

The dynamics are very different this year with the number of first tier candidates and the timing of primaries. If Fred makes a much stronger than expected showing in Iowa, he will have a lot of momentum.
Just might be 1980 all over again! In my opinion, Fred Thompson is the closest to Ronald Reagan this time around!
GO FRED! :)
