Ancient stone circle found in Skåne

Published: 9 Dec 07 10:57 CET

Ancient remains including a 3,000 year-old stone circle and presumed place of sacrifice have been discovered near Vitemölla on Österlen in the far south of Sweden. The site extends over two hectares and is older and bigger than the region's celebrated Ale's Stones.

The site, presumed to date from the bronze age, is reported to be probably the largest stone circle in the whole of northern Europe.

The find was made by Bob G Lind, a private researcher and archeoastronomer, reports Kvällsposten. Lind has named the stone circle Heimdall's Stones after Woden's son Heimdall who in the Edda (of Norse mythology) is described as the most radiant sun god in the world.

The cult centre site is in the shape of a gigantic sun dial and includes a large phallus symbol pointing due north. Lind explains that the stone sundial shows the sunrise and sunset in connection with moments such as the summer solstice, autumnal equinox and winter solstice.

"I suddenly saw how it all fitted together. My measurements confirmed all the theories," Lind explained.

Lind explained how he stumbled over the site while out walking with friends. He later confirmed his instincts when flying over the area to photograph the site, which is on land owned by the county council.

Heimdall's Stones was inspected on Friday by Thomas Romberg of the regional heritage board, who confirmed the site's distinct pattern, according to Skånska Dagbladet. The find has yet to be officially reported to the National Heritage Board (RAÄ).

The site has also been inspected by archaeologist Nils-Axel Mörner, who described how he was taken aback with amazement.

"Bob G Lind is to be congratulated", Mörner enthuses.

Bob G Lind is reported to be something of a controversial figure and has had a long running feud with the National Heritage Board over the history of Sweden's hitherto largest stone circle site, Ale's Stones in Kåseberga, also on Österlen.

"The Megalithic Portal website shows 907 images of Scandinavian sites...most are circles. No wonder they misplaced one."

Those things are everywhere. Did they have time to do anything else. Notice the two windmills in the below picture.

Awesome.

I wonder what culture created them? Mochica or Chimu or something earlier. Never heard of these.

PUNO/SILLUSTANI. LINK.

Sillustani Ruins

32 kms form Puno are the Chullpas (pre-Columbian funeral towers) of Sillustani, beautifully set on a peninsula in Lake Umayo surrounded by stark altiplano.

The Chullpas were built by the Aymara-speaking Collas - a tribe that dominated the Titicaca region before the Incas. Each tower contained the remains of Colla nobility accompanied by their riches. Grave robbers have since removed their contents, although the towers are well preserved and well worth seeing. The engineering involved in their construction is more complex than anything the Incas built. Two of the towers are unfinished: one with a ramp still in place to raise blocks; the other with cut stones ready to go on a very ambitions dome.

WIKI.LINK.

The architecture of the site is often considered more complex than typical Incan architecture. In contrast with the Inca, who used stones of varying shapes, the Colla used even rectangular edges.[4] While chullpas are not unique to Sillustani and are found across the Altiplano, the site is considered the best and most preserved example of them.

What are your thoughts?

I think their work was interupted; there are blocks that may have been ready for their next project:

I think the Kollas/Collas were part of or related to the peoples of Tiwanako or may have been survivors after Tiwanaco was destroyed. They shared stone technology...both appear to have known how to make concrete.

example from Punopuncu - which was once on the shore of Lake Titicaca:

And now you must be wishing you hadn't asked, lol!

GMTA! I only discovered this website YESTERDAY! Evidence to the extent of agriculture in the region is breathtaking:

http://www.realatlantis.com/atlantiscanals.htm

In EIU by V he writes ‘sometime in the remote past the Altiplano was at or below sea level, so that originally it’s lakes were part of a sea gulf. The last upheaval, however, took place in an early historical period, after the city of Tiahuanacu had been built; the lakes were dragged up, and the Altiplano and the entire chain of the Andes rose to their present height.’

Pumapunku (Puma Punka)LINK

Puma Punku, truly startles the imagination. It seems to be the remains of a great wharf (for Lake Titicaca long ago lapped upon the shores of Tiahuanaco) and a massive, four-part, now collapsed building. One of the construction blocks from which the pier was fashioned weighs an estimated 440 tons (equal to nearly 600 full-size cars) and several other blocks laying about are between 100 and 150 tons.

...from EIU: '...Once Tiahuanacu was at the water's edge; then Lake Titicaca was ninety feet higher, as it's old strand line discloses. But this strand line is tilted and in other places it is more than 360 feet above the present level of the lake. There are numerous raised beaches; and stress was put on "the freshness of many of the strandlines and the modern character of such fossils as occur."

http://www.realatlantis.com/atlantisoriginsinlegends.htm

” Bouysse-Cassagne, indicating that Thunupa was a god venerated in the sixteenth century by Aymara speakers, notes that Thunupa may have well existed in earlier times (1988: 77). Wachtel (1990) claims even greater antiquity for Thunupa than for Viracocha, arguing that Thunupa may be a pre-Aymara god, perhaps of Puquina origin. Thunupa, thought to be especially important to the area round Lake Titicaca, is particularly associated with water (Molina R. n.d.). Wachtel describes him as the maker of terrestrial water...

http://www.realatlantis.com/storynativeviewpoint.htm

Imagine you are a Greek priest listening to a traveller giving an account of where he came from and for this, I will use the words of Plato:
First of all I live on a continent the size of North Africa and Asia combined. It is located in the Atlantic Ocean opposite the Pillars of Hercules. In the centre of the continent, next to the sea and midway along the longest side of the continent there is a plain. This plain is completely level, it is of rectangular shape and elongated and is enclosed by mountains. It is high above the level of the ocean. In the mountains there are many streams and villages also a great number of mastodons. There are many mines including gold, silver, tin, copper and the second most valuable metal – orichalcum – called tumbaga in our language and which is a natural alloy of copper and gold. When the surface is polished the copper dissolves out and the gold remains giving a sparkling surface.
But the part where I live was formerly the capital of the whole country. It is a volcanic island located in the centre of the plain and five miles from the sea.
It was originally the home of the god of rivers and watercourses, a friend to mankind called Tunapa – in Greek as you say, Poseidon, who married a person who lived on a hill called Asanaque or in Greek, Cleito and had four pairs of twin offspring – although five pairs is sometimes recounted by the Greeks...

http://classics.mit.edu/Plato/critias.html

There are certain similarities I’ll grant, but the chariots, horses and weapons are a stumbling block IMO.

Tunapa/Poseidon? Saturn Myth?
