What Would Free Republic Do If Fred Thompson Is Not The Republican Nominee? (Vanity)
December 9 2007 | jveritas

It is very obvious that Fred Thompson is Free Republic most favorite candidate and by far. On the other hand every other top tier Republican candidate, Guiliani, Romney, Huckabee, and McCain are absolutely disdained by most Freepers. Therefore this is the important question:

What would Free Republic do if Fred Thompson is not the Republican Party Nominee?

Indeed, vote for the Republican Candidate on the principle of doing the least harm. NO Democratic Contender could be as good as the worst Republican Nominee

I will never vote for Giuliani or McCain.

I’ll consider holding my nose for some of the others.

Giuliani is a pro-abort who would destroy the party. Having McCain running the country would be like handing it over to Captain Queeg.

I wouldn’t vote for hillary, either, but I would abstain or vote third party (something I have only done once before in my life, in a New York State election). One term of hillary would be better than electing giuliani and destroying the party and the conservative movement.

jveritas, when you read the wiki link pay close attention to how they characterize the “April purge” I believe that when you see that you will question the veracity of their claims about anything concerning the history of FR.

They say that the “April purge” was because of favoritism to the Thompson’s campaign. That’s a hoot when you consider that one of Thompson’s most vocal supporters was banned/suspended during that time.

“You sounding like roamer_1 would be alone. He’s not.”

My fear is that he is far from alone.

No need to fear, you can be assured that he is far from alone.

You mean the April purge of Guiliani supporters on FR? We lost a lot of good freepers back then.

Any candidate capable of winning the Republican nomination will be superior to the Democrat nominee. Very easy decision. I never require a national candidate be heavily in agreement with me, as that would result in my seldom voting. I have a duty to choose the best alternative.

As for third-party, that’s not voting, that’s masturbation.

Wasn’t Bush purged from FR in 2000?

GWB was far from the most popular candidate around here in '99/'00 (to understate the matter), but not surprisingly folks rallied around him once it was clear he was going to win the nomination and Al Gore needed to be stopped at all costs.

If Thompson doesn't win expect a "deja vu all over again" situation.

I’ll support anyone other than a Democrat....some more than others. I can’t get excited about anyone except Hunter and Thompson.

“An old and tired defense, not even worth a debate.”

If I vote by write in or third party, that is not a vote for hillary... it is just not a vote for a Republican either. The whole boogeyman aspect has no effect upon me, I will vote against no one. I will vote FOR someone. It makes no difference at all if he has an "R" by his name or not.

Work harder to make it support your views.

No. If the Republicans care to sully themselves, then so be it. I will find greener pastures.

Was it Willie Horton? Don’t remember. Coddling illegals?
Take a look at Huckabees Position on illegals. What’s not to like? Build da Fence, Send um Home, Prosecute. Huckabee have evolved like alot of other conservatives when it comes to illegals. I think he gets it now. Raising Taxes, I having trouble with that a bit too. But the more I understand about the fair tax the more I like. He works for me on that point. I don’t get the Goryism thing, what do you mean specifically? I’ve never met a liberal right-to- lifer though.
Hoping for better. Just the question posed by this link indicates the fear we felt when we saw Fred start up the truck. Sounds like it’s sputtering a bit. Truely wish it wasn’t so.

I hope so. I do not like several candidates, most notably right now Huckabee, but even if it was him (or Rudy, etc.), any is far better than Hillary, Obama, and Edwards. Furthermore, I’m not willing to punish the GOP again like people here did in 2006 b/c the only ones punished were us by a Democratic Congress. I really hope you’re right. I do not want to live through 4-8 years of libmania.

I love Huckabee on immigration. He said that there was no reason to punish the kids for crimes of the parents...in defending in-state scholarships available to illegals.

Lemme guess... You're not from SoCal, are ya?

I want to see Fred out front in Feb! G-d willing, this can still happen. If we are forced to have another Republican nominee, I will vote for him.

"We lost a lot of good freepers back then."

That depends solely on your definition of a good freeper. We lost a bunch of folks that were real sweethearts as long as you agreed with them and sang their praises. Most of those that got purged were about as ugly as they could have been on the long thread and deserved to be kicked out on their butts.

"If it takes the complete destruction of the republican party as a viable political force to create a truly conservative party then so be it."

WOW! You guys that think that scare me. I know what to expect from the democrats on election day. I know what expect from the Marxist Socialists, the left wingers on election day. Its the guys like you that shoot my blood pressure up and cause me to fear for my Nation because of that philosophy. I can not disagree with that enough. You would rather see Hillary or Obama in there over a "RINO"? The US Supreme Court will be lost and this Country would change radically by judicial rule that does not answer to constituents. The plan of the left is to change this country through the courts, and if there are enough "conservative" voters like you that will hand them a victory, then they will win.

I do not like the RINO's either, but the Republican party has to be changed from within. I do not think your plan will work. If you and those like you vote 3rd party to "Perot" in a democrat with under 50% of the votes, they will manipulate the rules in their favor, changes the rules of the game, increase the dependency population, illegal alien votes etc etc etc to the point that a the chances of a true "Conservative Party" rising up will be next to impossible.

I know if Hillary looses the Primary, her supporters will not be voting 3rd party to help us any, they understand politics better than people that think like you. They are changing the democrat party from within. They gave up on the Socialist Party, and they are changing the Democrat Party into just that.

If Thompson or Hunter lose the primary, I hope you re-consider your position. Vote democrat, vote 3rd party, the end result is the same. I really do not believe your plan will work, I would ask you to give it more thought before you take it to the voting booth.
