Pearl Harbor -- do kids know what it means?
Posted on 12/07/2007 7:55:33 AM PST by reaganaut1
Question for Freepers this December 7. Are your kids taught in school about the attack on Pearl Harbor? Unlike many educational theorists, I think certain facts ought to be memorized, and what happenened on December 7, 1941 is one of them.

My kids both learned about it in school, but they knew about it WAY before they were taught about it by the teachers. It was covered in grade school for both my kids and I know it was covered in my daughter’s HS Am. His. class. My son has Am. His. next year, so I don’t know if they are still covering it.

Well if they don’t teach it in schools, my kids know about it as I remind them it’s Pearl Harbor Day every year and that they have a great, great uncle resting beneath the waves aboard the “Arizona”.

I think if they don’t now they will when they are older. I don’t think I truly understood Pearl Harbor until I joined the Navy. I mean I knew we were attacked by Japan but that was about it. I know a heck more now. lol.

During our morning exercises, a group of students in civics class read over the intercom, the speech given by FDR asking Congress to declare war.

On December 7th, 1941, I was a four year-old sitting between my parents in the front seat of the Dodge coming home from church. The radio was on. Suddenly my Dad turned to me and told me to shut up!
Later that evening, I learned what Pearl Harbor was and what "war" meant sitting with my Dad in the living room.
The Ahmadinejad and the Islam Fascists are plotting new and more horrific Pearl Harbors just as surely as Yamamoto planned December 7, 1941.

It was a result of American imperialism and FDR’s Jewish advisors if we are to believe the anti-American propagandists of WWII.
They are saying the same things about Bush’s response to the 9-11-2001 attacks but we aren’t supposed to question the patriotism of the anti-American propagandists this time.

That's a good display. Something that may be good to expose Americans to again are Norman Rockwell's "four freedoms":
