As some of you know, I am from Omaha. Just my opinion, for what it’s worth, but I’m watching the reports on TV and Radio, both locally (here in Omaha) and nationally and I’m getting ticked off .. I have to speak out.
I've been listening to people who knew this kid, on a local radio station, talking about threats he has made. There was one classmate who claims he threatened to kill her and burn down her house. Then there are the friends from his clique who are defending him. One even supposedly threatened to kill another student who was talking about what a horrible person he was to do such a thing.
I am sick and tired of being told about how “shocked” the people who knew him were (that he would do such a thing). In spite of knowing he’d been in trouble with the law, was suicidal, depressed, emotionally disturbed, and had ideas of killing people.
The lady (he lived in her house) knew he had just dropped out of school, was emotionally unstable, diagnosed depressed, suicidal, just lost his girlfriend 2 weeks ago, just got fired from his pathetic job, that he felt he was nothing but a worthless piece of shit and didn't want to be a burden to anyone, anymore. This kid was probably exhibiting all of the classic signs of a time bomb, waiting to go off. And to top it off, he was supposedly playing with guns… the night before the killing spree!!
OF COURSE NOBODY EVER SAW IT COMING !!!!!
I can already feel the Brady minions coming out of the woodwork to grab up the SKS’s because nobody recognized this blatant danger to our community. And one other thing .. an SKS is NOT a “high powered” rifle!
Next, we are going to see signs all over the Malls saying not to bring in weapons. And how long before some nutcase announces that these poor victims deserved this, for wasting gas driving to the Mall (celebrating the HATED Christmas season, no less) in the first place! Who could have imagined it would ever come to this?
Makes you think it’s a real good idea to just shop online .. no hassles, no taxes and you don’t have to take your life into your hands! Thanks for letting me vent a bit.
widespread and common CCW’s can at least serve to give potential killers pause and realize that there’s a possibility that all his victims may not just lay down like sheep.

his intent was to kill and be killed - widespread ccws would have done zilch to protect anyone from this. at best, it would have reduced the body count (which is not a bad thing).
knowledge of widespread ccws will only deter those who don’t want to die themselves, and it seems most of the ‘disturbed’ individuals want to die.
I have a bit of an issue with the stepdad, to be honest. he certainly knew how crazed the kid was, but did not think to lock up his guns? That’s negligence from where I sit.
In the firearms community, 7.62x39 is considered an intermediate cartridge of a little more than half the ft-lbs (~1800) of a high-powered cartridge, and about twice the ft-lbs of a .45 pistol round. Physically, it's significantly smaller in length than the Russian high-powered round 7.62x54R, which if I remember correctly hits with about 2900 ft-lbs, on par with an American 30.06 or .308.
Still makes people just as dead though.

I don’t think that’s the problem either. The “kid” (who was actually a man) needed Jesus.
I keep calling him a kid too but I think that’s one of the problems too.
You’re right that more CC’s wouldn’t have helped much. Our country needs more Jesus and less Humanism and to stop drugging up our kids.

The chief of the PD there reported Robby was a felon. This and the fact that he also made credible threats to kill his mother sounds like the basis for that, since he was locked up in a mental institution for that kind of thing. It's a juvy, so hte records are probably sealed.

Yes, it is. It's in the class of rifles that would be used in the high power comp at Camp Perry, which would include AR15s and M1As in 223 and 308 respectively.

It never occurred to me that he may have stolen it. They were jr high kids. I will ask him about that. The story at the time was the kid gave it to him. I returned it to the owners. Would I have turned my son into the police? Probably not because I didn't want him to have it on his record and ruin his life, and it didn't occur to me at the time anyway. Doesn't matter now because he can't own one anyway due to domestic disputes w/ex wife when she was the one to pull knives on him, deliberately ran into a telephone pole, her dad is a detective and got them out of that, etc. She finally had to spend some time in jail for assault of somebody else. He is 34 now and makes a six figure income, has been a good son, came over late last night to snowblow my sidewalks.
Another mistake by picking the wrong woman, broke his heart. He is stuck with mega child support for his son by her, she is going to ask for a modification because his income keeps increasing and lives with her boyfriend off the money she gets from him although I think he does work. The other father pays $30 a week when he can. How would you like to live with that? He pays faithfully, and we didn't get any child support after the first couple years from his own dad.

Don't read stuff into what I said. That doesn't mean I think you're trash. Your saying you "made a mistake" in not turning the gun into the police was a giant red flag to me. Anyone who thinks that the police can actually solve problems is not someone I'd want to hang around with - it has nothing to do with your income or social status. I prefer my friends to be more of the self sufficient mindset.

I don't know; overall, not. He can't have a felony on his record and keep doing what he is doing. He was at a swanky country club and a regular from a wealthy family started stalking him and calling him white trash because of his tattoos. He now wishes he didn't get them because it is not good for his business. I think his motive was low self esteem and to impress the girls. I'm not into that but well I just met one of the nicest freepers yet who has them. I have learned not to be too judgemental of people, how I judge will be judged on me in the end if it is that way. Anyway, the guy wouldn't leave him alone, and he lost it, got him down and beat the hell out of him, they had to pull him off. The club regulars cheered him on because the guy is supposedly an obnoxious snob, said he's had it coming for a long time, and also a state wrestling champion. Anyway, he got felony assault charges against him for that, and he was really shaken because he knew he could have killed the guy. It got pled down to a misdemeanor, he lost one of his best companies, paid a $5,000 fine. I told him he should have just gotten the hell out of there. It wasn't worth it. So maybe it is better he doesn't have a gun. His wife was a beautiful blonde, but is very high strung. I don't know if the laws have treated him fairly or not. Life just sucks sometimes, and I blame him for some of it but not all.

You don't know how much I would want to be more self sufficient. To protect myself, I shouldn't tell more about my situation. The best I can do at this point in my life is do everything I can for myself, things a lot of women my age wouldn't dream of doing. I was dreading going out with the snowblower this morning because it hadn't been used yet this season. I would have screwed up bigtime because between the lawn mower, tiller, and snowblower, I have to keep track of what fuel to put in it. I would have put straight gas in it, so that was a double blessing. Sometimes I do my own snowblowing, but it is hard for me to get back up 5 steps. That's enough in that vein.
Trust the police? I've always gotten along with them but my general attitude is not to get them involved unless I have to. I've had enough experience with them because of things others have done. My daughter got broken into, hot, screen cut, was waked up out of a sound sleep by a thug, and a family heirloom wedding ring stolen off her finger. I thank God he didn't rape or kill her, could have happened. She had to id him, and he went away for 25 but will probably get out sooner, may already be out. Luckily she has moved and changed her name. The ring had initials carved in it, so I told the police that is how they could id it. The police found it in a crack house and gave it back after they were done with it for evidence. They could have kept it. They were really nice to me when I got my purse stolen, my stuff was turning up all over town, got a lot of it back.
But there is another side of it. Better not go there. I wonder about some things.
And how long before somehow some lib ties this into being Bush's fault.

Sorry, soon as I read your post, SNL's Weekend Update with Chevy Chase sprang to mind.
I've been there too. Matter of fact I demanded the police arrest my 18 yr old daughter after 60 grand in rehabs & her stealing from us & everyone she could. I had to threaten the police I would go the the newspaper just to get them to go get her on warrants she already had. Why did I do this to her people may ask? Well it was to save her life because dope was killing her. Nothing worked so yes I did what was IMHO the only thing left ..jail. I got a lot of BS over it but the fact is she is sober , straight & has a beautiful home, husband & 2 yr old. She knows if I hadn't made the choice I did she would be in the ground. Dope was not the drug of choice when I was younger so I didn't have a clue of the signs until I saw the needle marks. She was sneaky & smart & I truly was stupid. Her grades were great, she was in gifted & talented classes. Then boom she was an addict. We all went through hell. We thought what did we do that was wrong. It wasn't us, it was peer pressure & my daughter going along with her friends. And making the choice to stick a needle in her arm. She doesn't like talking about it but I still have questions as to why she was so dumb. Most of that group are dead now. Thankfully she is alive & I thank God each day for that.
I've lived poor & I've lived rich. Now I live comfortably. I've been stalked by an ex boyfriend & it was hell. The law did nothing for me. But I didn't give into fear. I got a gun & in my state that gun was illegal at that time & now its long gone. But I can remember well the fear I had & the nightmares of those days still come & go.
I am married to a hardcore biker who is one of the best men I know. He came into my life when I had 5 teens & he made them straighten up. He is a wonderful daddy to our 8 yr old daughter too. People look at him & can have their own opinions. I really don't care. What I do find very funny is that in my upper middle class neighborhood everyone loves my husband. The bus stop moms bake cookies for him. The guys all want to talk bikes with him . My neighbors feel safer that he lives here . I have tattoos & I could give a hoot who likes me or dislikes me because of them. Its what is inside of a person that counts, not the outside. I do however wish I didn't have some of them . But I was young & dumb, you live & you learn..
I have a few friends who have had mental issues. He11 I've had to have had them in my life too but I just don't know how to have a breakdown. I've always been too busy. I'm very proud to list you as one of my friends. Hugs ~Pandy~

I understand all too well. I got my checks stolen for I don't know how many times from my oldest, finally had a gut full and went to the police. The lady at the desk said I really didn't want to do that, did I? I backed off, but later got papers to have her committed, need second family member, my son went down with me. Had a hearing, and I was so nervous, the judge let her go so she ran off to CA. Another time I had three of the girls (my two and my ex's wife's daughter) go to jail for stealing my car, hated to do it, but had to. It was a scene from hell. What did I do wrong? The first time any of them stole something, I marched them back into the store, made them give it back and made them apologize. I prayed for years for a "savior" like you got. The only reason it worked for you is that he earned your kids' respect, must be a heck of a guy. Never happened for me, don't mind any more. That daughter finally quit the drugs but still drinks too much at times, but is doing better than I expected to see. We sound like a bad family. I was an overwhelmed single mom, things were pretty good until they hit the teens, peer pressure, by this time you couldn't spank them, so I'd ground them, and they sneaked out the window. I can't talk about the rest of it. Glad your daughter is alive; somebody must be watching over her. You are a strong person. Who cares if your husband is a biker? I don't care about your tattoos, you don't judge a book by its cover. There are several more here or were.
I'm so glad your daughter straightened up. My gf from an affluent family went through it, too. Broken home, father AWOL. It affects the kids. Her health is poor, and she has to work still. I blamed myself for years, but no more. I came straight home from work every night, cooked for them, quit going out on weekends, tried to be the best mom I knew how.
The other day I got a memory back. My mother used to taunt me with "I hope you have two girls just like you." Well, she wasn't an evil mom, and I had a good father, and looking back except for just a couple things, I was a good daughter, always did what she asked without complaining, always but once made my curfew, never embarassed them by getting into trouble. Well she got her wish tenfold. I know now if she could see how things went, she would be sorry for all the bad things she said to me.
To this day, I only keep one book of checks in my purse and the rest hidden. I am paranoid about it still and sometimes check the numbers. One of her friends came into the house while I was in the back room and pulled the same thing. I check my balance, it is way low. Man, I can't afford to lose that much money, put 2 & 2 together on why those 3 checks were missing, so I had to report it to the police or the credit union ins wouldn't cover it. I was suspect, too, had to give handwriting samples, they don't know but what you colluded with it. She went to jail for it. I was afraid of her, big strapping girl. They were supposed to notify me when she was released and she was supposed to pay back $30, neither happened. I didn't want her showing up at the door anyway, heck with the $30.
That dope is terrible, we didn't even know what pot was when I was in school. Nobody did that. I read in papers about heroin addicts in NY or I wouldn't have known there was such a thing.

Brandsmart has the picture of the gun with the red line through it. The Boynton Beach Mall has it in fine print in the rules, which are pasted on a window near one of the entrance doors. Of course, if you enter the mall through one of the department stores, you don’t walk past the sign.

Evidently if you are carrying and enter one of these places you are trespassing. Its armed trespass which is a bad one. However they have to inform you that its trespass and direct you to leave. If you don’t leave then you are trespassing.
