EXCLUSIVE Celebs and VIPs snub plea to share private planes and cut CO2 emissions. Just 78 out of 3,500 rich & famous agree to stop flying solo to red carpet.

By Susie Boniface 02/12/2007

VIPs have snubbed a plea to go green - by refusing to share their luxury private jets.

Thousands of the rich and famous were invited to pool their planes in an effort to cut carbon emissions.

But so far just 78 out of 3,500 who either own or regularly use private planes have signed up.

Prince Charles, climate campaigner Al Gore, Simon Cowell, Madonna and Kate Moss are among those who won't be heeding the plea.

Celebrities, royalty and captains of industry were invited to join a select club which matches their travel needs to those of other VIPs for red carpet events.

Just the 78 signed up to the Flight-share Private Members Guild.

Aviation experts say around 5,000 empty private jets take to the skies every week to collect high-profile passengers from entertainment events, political summits and sporting fixtures. Paddy Gillett of pressure group Plane Stupid said: "They seem to be sticking two fingers up by flying as much as they like."

It's not that Al Gore wouldn't want to "flight-share", but he's got a higher mission. By illustrating to the World how we shouldn't be behaving--- he's making a much more important point!

We should all learn how not to act from his example.

Al Gore, Simon Cowell, Madonna and Kate Moss all hate the environment ... Isn’t it obvious by their actions!

They’ll share planes, at least a few times, just so they can join the mile high club and have something to write about in their memoirs after their careers have tanked.

5,000 crew-only, no passenger flights a week? And many for tree-hugging celebrities, I'm sure. I'm glad I can look at myself in the mirror.

The more the globe warms up, the more money Algore makes. Why should he fly commercial?

Think what might happen if a plane load of libtards was to crash. The thought of such an event makes me want to celebrate pre-tragedy.

Better yet, have them pull the old catamaran out of storage and get there via renewable energy.

But, I saw them all showing up in Priusi...
(Is that the proper plural? Either way I like it.)
Has anyone asked Hertz/Toyota how many of these were rented/comped?

Last year we had an English fellow -- a priest -- come to our church in Colorado to give a rousing speech about global warming, and such. He talked about carbon footprints and all of that.

He arrived at our church in a seriously large (rented) limo, after having flown in that afternoon. He'd been on the road, flying and speechifying, for some weeks, and was (I think) supposed to be doing so for some weeks more.

His main point was that Westerners' carbon footprints are so much huger than those of, say, the Botswanans.

He really was a good speechifier -- but I never could get past the fact that his own, personal carbon footprint is probably 200 times the size of most Westerners....

I was thinking of buying an Airbus A-380 for weekend jaunts, but I must do my part. I’ll stick to my Jeep Cherokee.

Just as soon as I’m allowed to own my private F-22 I will be happy to act like all these celebs and not share (not that there’s any passenger seats anyway)...... oh, and as soon as I can come up with the $180 million or so.......

You should get credited for doing that. Think of the reduction you accomplished.
