The GOP presidential candidate says U.S. sovereignty is at risk. Highway and trade officials and transportation consultants say there are no plans for such a project.
WASHINGTON -- The man from Arlington, Texas, could barely contain his smirk as he looked into a computer video camera to pose a question of Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul.

Maybe someone should introduce legislation against Martian body-snatching and see who all co-signs it.

Texas is funding a super highway to Mexico? Hey! That's more or less exactly what a lot of legislators said before opposing it.

How is this news supposed to help Hunter?
The article states that Hunter (among 42 others in the House) signed “a resolution expressing opposition to a NAFTA superhighway.”
In the effort to smear Paul, they’ve just smeared your guy, too.

A North American Union is a threat to American sovereignty, but the highway is just a conduit for trade. That might be bad for domestic business, but it isn't a direct threat on sovereignty, and isn't much of an indirect threat either.
(The picture was unnecessary; just used it to inaugurate the use of [faces] to help express comments to help reduce the odds that they'll be misconstrued).

We already have the super-highway, the Pan-American. Look it up. It’s been a work in progress since the 1920s.

There are a lot of limited access mega-roads that run north/south and east/west ignoring state borders. They are called interstates. Most people think they are a good thing.
I’ve had some difficulty getting too excited by one more beginning (or terminating, depending on your point of view) in Texas.

You're right. It isn't just one road, it'f four corridors from Mexico through the US to Canada and in one area to Alaska.

I’m not, but I expect that if there a people to be scared into voting for him, Run Paul will make it a part of his platform. Run Paul: Not Afraid to Defend America’s Sovereignty from Martian Body-Snatchers. He and Kucinich could put that on their bumper stickers together.

Firm Advises Cintra in First Privatization of Toll Road in Texas
Bracewell & Giuliani | 03/01/2007
Posted on 03/20/2007 3:00:07 PM CDT by Calpernia
DALLAS (March 1, 2007) Bracewell & Giuliani LLP advised
Cintra Concesiones de Infraestructuras de Transporte,
S.A., a Spanish transportation company, in its
successful bid to develop State Highway 121 into a toll
road through Collin and Dentoncounties.
The award to Cintra, approved by the Texas Transportation Commission, is the first privatization of a Texas toll road.
Bracewell is acting as project counsel to Cintra with
respect to the 50-year concession from the Texas
Department of Transportation.
Cintra will pay a $2.1 billion upfront and annual lease
payments totaling $700 million.
"Cintra was awarded this project because of its proven
expertise and competitive proposal," said Thomas O.
Moore, partner with Bracewell & Giuliani.
"This is the largest transportation deal of 2007.
This is one of only five deals in the country."

A North American Union is a threat to American sovereignty, but the highway is just a conduit for trade. That might be bad for domestic business, but it isn't a direct threat on sovereignty, and isn't much of an indirect threat either. Well it means the seizure of one heck of a lot of land. They are not planning a mere road. The Texas segment of the project is called the "Trans Texas Corridor" and is proposed to include a wide strip land on either side which will be used for economic development along the road.
It's a huge vanity project for the Govenor. I don't know if any other states have bought into this NAFT superhighway idea (which was supposed to create a corridor all the way to Canada). Texas has a political faction that has bought into it in a big way though.

Hunter doesn’t talk about the “NAFTA superhighway” he talks about NAFTA. He’s politically smarter then most realize.
To: Ragnar704
No thanks. I don’t believe there are any Martians. If you think there are, you can take that up and I wish you luck. I’m sure you can get Run Paul to get involved too.
