While many war supporters have been pointing to security improvements in Iraq as evidence that the Surge is working for weeks, the meme got a significant boost yesterday from an unlikely source: Congressman Jack Murtha.
U.S. Rep. John Murtha today said he saw signs of military progress during a brief trip to Iraq last week, but he warned that Iraqis need to play a larger role in providing their own security and the Bush administration still must develop an exit strategy.
“I think the ’surge’ is working,” the Democrat said in a videoconference from his Johnstown office, describing the president’s decision to commit more than 20,000 additional combat troops this year. But the Iraqis “have got to take care of themselves.”

Murtha makes me wonder why we outlawed the practice of dueling. You can’t fix stupid, but some will elect it and inflict it on the rest of us.
Great article today in The Weekly Standard that tracks each leftwing congresscritters remarks beginning last fall about Iraq and the Surge failing.

The democrats realize they have been exposed for the shameless hucksters that they are. It should be clear to any thinking human who has access to other information sources than the so-called MSM, that the democrats played politics with Iraq, essentially using US service personnel as pawns, for electoral reasons. I hope they all rot. Murtha especially.
Murtha a Marine? I think not. He’s a traitor who deserves to be run out of Congress. Same thing with that phony “general” from Cali. He and Murtha are of the same level - self before duty and country.
Everyone has Got To REMEMBER- Murtha STILL is a Dem Operative so WHATEVER he says contains Wheels within Wheels.
Plus he never really AGREED or came out FOR the Surge and it’s “Found” result(s) -he just USED his proclamation as an EXCUSE to just start up again he denunciation of the War being run by Bush & his admin.

This is just the first step for the liberals to take credit for the success in Iraq.
The “war hero” has spoken. What a sack of crap!
He said Iraqis need to duplicate that success at the national level, but the central government in Baghdad is “dysfunctional.”

The surge is working, after Murtha said it was going to fail, and did everything in his power to see that it did. What a collection of phonies!
