Groups that support a crackdown on illegal aliens haven't settled on their champion in the race for the White House, but there's little doubt which Republican scares them most former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee.
"He was an absolute disaster on immigration as governor," said Roy Beck, president of NumbersUSA

News Flash : Former Arkansas Governor Veracity Challenged
The Man from Hope has described his illegal immigrant scholarship program as follows:
I supported a bill that would have allowed those children who had been in our schools their entire school life the opportunity to have the same scholarship that their peers had who had also gone to high school with them and sat in the same classrooms. They couldn’t just move in in their senior year and go to college. ... [It] said that if you’d sat in our schools from the time you’re 5 or 6 years old and you had become an A-plus student, you completed the core curriculum, you were an exceptional student, and you also had to be drug and alcohol free, and the other provision, you had to be applying for citizenship.
Wish I could say I was shocked to find out most of that isn’t true:
Actually, the bill Huckabee pushed for in his 2005 State of the Union address did not apply only to “those children who had been in our schools their entire school life.” It required only three years in an Arkansas high school to be eligible. And students did not have to be “applying for citizenship,” but rather they had to sign an affidavit stating their intent to do so in the future. All students who apply for state scholarships must “certify that they are drug-free” and “pledge to refrain from alcohol” if they are under 21, just as Huckabee said. But they certainly don’t have to be “an A-plus student.” The state requires a solid “B” average (a 3.0 average on a 4.0 scale). And the state may reduce that to a 2.5 average if sticking with the higher requirement “would unduly reduce the number of low-income or disadvantaged students who would otherwise be eligible for the program.” That’s a C-plus average.
On one issue after another, the Man from Hope has been displaying an unfortunate habit of playing fast and loose with the facts. I could be wrong, but I suspect that might become a liability if he doesn’t get on the straight and narrow PDQ.

I am still shaking my head over this preacher saying ‘Jesus *WAS* too smart to run....’ when asked what would Jesus do?
The bottom line on the Huckster is that he is a pro-life socialist.
“He was an absolute disaster on immigration as governor...”
He’ll be an even bigger disaster if he is gets in the White House!
The fact that FR’s most rabidly pro open border posters support the Huckster is all I need to know.
I predict that Huckabee’s balloon will burst soon.
Preacher Huckabee is still patting himself on his back for this response. Whereas he should be red-faced and embarrassed that his Jesus *WAS* toooo smart.
Rush said it was silly!
We spent years under Bush fighting off Bush/McCain/Kennedy style amnesty and now we are going to nominate some guy who characterizes opposing tuition breaks for illegals as grinding “your heel into the face of a 6-year-old child”?
I think I prefer the overweening arrogance of the open borders crowd that was just calling us racists for opposing secure borders. Huckabee has raised the stakes to calling us child abusers.
How any conservative can vote for a guy who pushes tax increases and trashes those who stand up against giveaways to illegal aliens is beyond me. Maybe Huck thinks the children of others who break the law ought to be given special privileges. How about tuition breaks for the children of bank robbers or burglars?
But, but, but, he’s redeemed. That should make him perfect to the Christian Mullahs
“I am still shaking my head over this preacher saying Jesus *WAS* too smart to run.... when asked what would Jesus do?
A good answer to a stupid question..
This one of the many “When did you stop being a redneck” questions that were asked.
There were about 3 qwuestions that none of the candidates should have played with.
I missed Rush, wish I had heard his take. Guess I am not as compassionate as Rush because silly would be reserved for a nonbeliever, not some high minded preacher.
As I said in a previous post, would have been an acceptable answer by a 'nonbeliever' not a man who heralds himself a Christian preacher. Not exactly representative of his supposed calling.
He is a disaster as a candidate too, supporting the shameful DREAM Act.
Note, for me this isn’t really about Huckebee, who I thing is a decent person and would be much better than the Hildabeast, it’s about who controls the process of selecting the candidates by controlling the framework of the public debate.
Watching the efforts by the MSM and business types to lift Huckebee from obscurity to within (perceived) striking distance in Iowa is totally fascinating. Now I understand how we could go from a “compassionate conservative” to a “heroic conservative” - Both types are really Liberals at heart dressed up in socially conservative clothing.
He may well be redeemed, that is between he and God. He was given an opportunity to tell all who were hearing, instruction from Jesus and he instead made a joke. And is even still as of this a.m. (must admit I have the Foxes on in the background), patting himself on his back for his funny.
I agree, cc. We can only hope that traditional Conservatives who support him read up on the Huckster.
Any candidate promising judges, promising an administration not hostile to pro-life causes, hiring pro-life activists to their campaigns, or any candidate saying they were wrong in their past, or working for pro-abortion law firms, or not being for a pro-life const amendment, not Christian enough....on and on. All these candidates were/are suspicious or rabid baby killers.
So much so that threats of a 3rd party, and staying home were made, and those threats continue today.
So, here we are, as usual, without the perfect and pure candidate.
