NEW BUCHANAN BOOK DECLARES 'END OF AMERICA'

This time, Buchanan goes all the way:
"America is in an existential crisis from which the nation may not survive."
The U.S. Army is breaking and is too small to meet America’s global commitments.
The dollar has sunk to historic lows and is being abandoned by foreign governments.
U.S. manufacturing is being hollowed out.
The greatest invasion in history, from the Third World, is swamping the ethno-cultural core of the country, leading to Balkanization and the loss of the Southwest to Mexico.
The culture is collapsing and the nation is being deconstructed along the lines of race and class.
A fiscal crisis looms as the unfunded mandates of Social Security and Medicare remain unaddressed.
All these crises are hitting America at once -- a perfect storm of crises.
Specifically, Buchanan contends:
• Pax Americana, the era of U.S. global dominance, is over. A struggle for global hegemony has begun among the United States, China, a resurgent Russia and radical Islam
• Bush’s invasion of Iraq was a product of hubris and of ideology, a secular religion of “democratism,” to which Bush was converted in the days following 9/11
• Torn asunder by a culture war, America has now begun to break down along class, ethnic and racial lines.
• The greatest threat to U.S. sovereignty and independence is the scheme of a global elite to erase America’s borders and merge the USA, Mexico and Canada into a North American Union.
• Free trade is shipping jobs, factories and technology to China and plunging America into permanent dependency and unpayable debt. One of every six U.S. manufacturing jobs vanished under Bush
• “Sovereign Wealth Funds,” controlled by foreign regimes and stuffed with trillions of dollars from U.S. trade deficits, are buying up strategic corporate assets vital to America’s security
• As U.S. wages are stagnant, corporate CEOs are raking in rising pay and benefits 400 to 500 times that of their workers
• The Third World invasion through Mexico is a graver threat to our survival as one nation than anything happening in Afghanistan or Iraq
* European-Americans, 89% of the nation when JFK took the oath, are now 66% and sinking. Before 2050, America is a Third World nation
• By 2060, America will add 167 million people and 105 million immigrants will be here, triple the 37 million today.
• Hispanics will be over 100 million in 2050 and concentrated in a Southwest most Mexicans believe belongs to them
Buchanan’s Recommendations:
• A new foreign-defense policy that closes most of the 1000 bases overseas, reviews all alliances, and brings home U.S. troops
• A purge of neoconservative ideology and the “Cakewalk” crowd” from national power.
• To avert a second Cold War, the United States should “get out of Russia’s space and get out of Russia’s face,” and shut down all U.S. bases on the soil of the former Soviet Union
• To reach a cold peace in the culture war, Buchanan urges a return to federalism and the overthrow of our judicial dictatorship by Congressionally mandated restrictions on the jurisdiction of the Supreme Court.
• To end the trade deficits and save the dollar, Buchanan urges a Hamiltonian solution: a 20% Border Equity Tax on imports, with the $500 billion raised to be used to end taxation on American producers
• To prevent America becoming “a tangle of squabbling nationalities” Buchanan urges: No amnesty for the 12-20 million illegal aliens; a border fence from San Diego to Brownsville; Congressional declarations that children born to illegal aliens are not citizens and English is the language of the United States; and a “timeout” on all immigration.

Concur. My best estimate is that we've got between four to six months before reaching the point at which the tornado could hit.
Hooray! A clarion call for common sense. This is an important, timely, and fascinating book. Ron Brownstein describes how American politics became so polarized and partisan, explains why this is so damaging to our nation, and suggests ways we can reverse this trend. Every voter should read it right away, for the sake of our democracy.
archy, can you offer a back-of-the-napkin example of Brownstein's suggestions for reversing the current trend?
I'm mainly curious about whether the author has taken full measure of the Herculean task that "fixing things" will truly be (Congress alone is a damned good modern example of the Augean stables).
I could use a little more time, but not too much.

How has NAFTA been a disaster for our manufacturing? Last I checked businesses are moving factories overseas, not Mexico or Canada (that weren’t already there).
First, read his bio and columns. I'm not real certain that I'd consider adopting ANY of Brownstein's suggestions for reversing the current trend, or even that reversing the trend is desirable. But you can read some of his LA Times columns here, after considering a few tidbits from his bio:
Ronald Brownstein is the national affairs columnist for the Los Angeles Times, writing a weekly column every Wendesday on politics and policy as well as regular pieces for the newspaper's Opinion pages. Previously he served as the Times' national political correspondent and the author of the weekly Washington Outlook column. He has been with the Los Angeles Times since January 1990, except for seven months in 1998 when he served as chief political correspondent and columnist for U.S. News and World Report.
Mr. Brownstein has twice been named a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize, receiving that recognition for his coverage of both the 1996 and 2004 presidential campaigns. The Pulitzer Board, naming him a finalist in 2005, cited "the clarity, consistency and quality of his political reporting during a presidential election year." I think he's sufficiently grounded in history and experience to see what's coming. And if his political outlook is far different from that of Pat Buchanan, it's interesting that those who hold such divergent views note the same or similar eventual outcome.

I hope you have it. But be prepared for about half that, and for things to get VERY intense VERY quickly once begun.
I agree. Partisanship in and of itself is not a problem. The fact that Democrat partisanship is so wrong, and bad for America...That is the problem. The great trick is to label partisanship as bad,and then linking Conservativism with being automatically partisan, and therefore bad. They never do that with liberalism and the Democrat party.

Yes. I'd say that when someone is slandered with a Nazi label by very powerful Republicans and in the mainstream media... that qualifies as "Out to get him."
The “general public doesn’t know the truth or care.” Translation: But I know the truth. and the rest of you don’t.

Buchanan has nothing in common with any of that. He deals in facts. Facts that apparently you don't want to hear.
Hey alot of what he says is true, there’s no denying that. But his persona made him unelectable in the past, would do so today, and will be that way tomorrow.
I like his personality and I would vote for him. But, I just like honesty and guts.
May like what he or anyone else has to say on issues but that does not mean I would vote for him/them.
Suit yourself. I do vote for people who are right on the issues. But, you see the choices we are left with who call themselves Republicans.

I imagine walking the dogs on a fine peaceful morning that suddenly goes completely wrong. As wrong as your inlaws moving in with you, permanently.
Then, after a brief rush of fear, things settle down to a waiting quiet.
