NEW BUCHANAN BOOK DECLARES 'END OF AMERICA'

“America is coming apart, decomposing, and...the likelihood of her survival as one nation...is improbable -- and impossible if America continues on her current course," declares Pat Buchanan. "For we are on a path to national suicide.”
The best-selling author and former presidential candidate is on the eve of launching his new epic book: DAY OR RECKONING: HOW HUBRIS, IDEOLOGY AND GREE ARE TEARING AMERICA APART.
This time, Buchanan goes all the way:
"America is in an existential crisis from which the nation may not survive."
The U.S. Army is breaking and is too small to meet America’s global commitments.
The dollar has sunk to historic lows and is being abandoned by foreign governments.
U.S. manufacturing is being hollowed out.
The greatest invasion in history, from the Third World, is swamping the ethno-cultural core of the country, leading to Balkanization and the loss of the Southwest to Mexico.
The culture is collapsing and the nation is being deconstructed along the lines of race and class.
A fiscal crisis looms as the unfunded mandates of Social Security and Medicare remain unaddressed.
All these crises are hitting America at once -- a perfect storm of crises.
Specifically, Buchanan contends:
• Pax Americana, the era of U.S. global dominance, is over. A struggle for global hegemony has begun among the United States, China, a resurgent Russia and radical Islam
• Bush’s invasion of Iraq was a product of hubris and of ideology, a secular religion of “democratism,” to which Bush was converted in the days following 9/11
• Torn asunder by a culture war, America has now begun to break down along class, ethnic and racial lines.
• The greatest threat to U.S. sovereignty and independence is the scheme of a global elite to erase America’s borders and merge the USA, Mexico and Canada into a North American Union.
• Free trade is shipping jobs, factories and technology to China and plunging America into permanent dependency and unpayable debt. One of every six U.S. manufacturing jobs vanished under Bush
• “Sovereign Wealth Funds,” controlled by foreign regimes and stuffed with trillions of dollars from U.S. trade deficits, are buying up strategic corporate assets vital to America’s security
• As U.S. wages are stagnant, corporate CEOs are raking in rising pay and benefits 400 to 500 times that of their workers
• The Third World invasion through Mexico is a graver threat to our survival as one nation than anything happening in Afghanistan or Iraq
* European-Americans, 89% of the nation when JFK took the oath, are now 66% and sinking. Before 2050, America is a Third World nation
• By 2060, America will add 167 million people and 105 million immigrants will be here, triple the 37 million today.
• Hispanics will be over 100 million in 2050 and concentrated in a Southwest most Mexicans believe belongs to them
Buchanan’s Recommendations:
• A new foreign-defense policy that closes most of the 1000 bases overseas, reviews all alliances, and brings home U.S. troops
• A purge of neoconservative ideology and the “Cakewalk” crowd” from national power.
• To avert a second Cold War, the United States should “get out of Russia’s space and get out of Russia’s face,” and shut down all U.S. bases on the soil of the former Soviet Union
• To reach a cold peace in the culture war, Buchanan urges a return to federalism and the overthrow of our judicial dictatorship by Congressionally mandated restrictions on the jurisdiction of the Supreme Court.
• To end the trade deficits and save the dollar, Buchanan urges a Hamiltonian solution: a 20% Border Equity Tax on imports, with the $500 billion raised to be used to end taxation on American producers
• To prevent America becoming “a tangle of squabbling nationalities” Buchanan urges: No amnesty for the 12-20 million illegal aliens; a border fence from San Diego to Brownsville; Congressional declarations that children born to illegal aliens are not citizens and English is the language of the United States; and a “timeout” on all immigration.

The source I just saw says Mike Deaver was sent, and he didn’t see the grave markers because of snow. Perhaps Pat Buchanan’s main role was in advocating the visit go forward, over opposition from Nancy Reagan and others.
Great timing for a provocative book. Sales should be high, as holiday gifts.
And if the summary is accurate, nothing new. He’s said it all before.
I see at post 114 clintonh8r comments that it’s fashionable to bash Buchanan here on Free Republic. I have noticed the same thing, and it has puzzled me since much of what he says seems to makes sense. I always just know when I open a Pat Buchanan thread it will be laced with insults towards him.
That being said, devere, assuming you have some factual reasons to say what you’re saying here, you have finally put into plain English some noteworthy concerns about Pat Buchanan, his motives, and his biases, and those reasons help me to understand why we need to be very careful about accepting what he writes hook line and sinker. If PBuchanan has some hidden agenda springing from Jew-hatred and pro-Nazi sympathies then everything he writes is suspect. Maybe that’s why so many FReepers make what at first glance seem to be undeserved derogatory comments on Buchanan threads. THANK YOU SO MUCH, devere, for bothering to explain it and clearing up this puzzle for me rather than just making brief nonsensical snide comments.

Folks like Pat don't seem to understand that the success of our nation is that it promotes its ideas so that people of ANY ethnicity--not just European, ja?--can love the idea of America and come here and WORK for the American Dream.
I've worked with the rich, the middle class, the poor and the homeless, and I have lived in cities and towns and in the country, and I see no shortage of overweight, ignorant, unemployed white folks right along with many non-European folks sucking off the system. I've also seen plenty of folks of non-European ancestry who work hard, keep their families together, and don't follow a religion that tells you to blow yourself up.
Pat definitely has some good points, but they are blocked by his obvious, and undeniable, xenophobia. People don't like to hear that, but really, the reason it comes up so often with him is because it's true. He is scared of people who don't think and look like he does. That's not what Ronald Reagan expressed or believed, and it's not what the greatest Americans believed. Buchanan can scream his "culture war" stuff all he wants, but while there definitely IS a cultural divide in this country, there always has been--when minorities and women weren't heard in the mainstream, that didn't mean they weren't still angry, and didn't disagree with the majority.
One only has to recall that Nixon lost to Kennedy by 49.5% to 49.7% (and probably won) to know that there's ALWAYS been this "divide" in this country--we've never had this mythical Ozzie and Harriet America where everyone looked and acted like Pat Buchanan. He appeals to the fear of people who live very small, very insulated lives.
He is kind of like the Joe McCarthy of immigration--his being on our side only makes things WORSE for us. We need to secure our borders and hit employers hard so the illegals among us will have no reason to come here and every reason to go home. But crazy Pat screaming his Cotton Mather stuff is only going to help the lefties position the fight against the invasion of illegals as a racist Republican scam.
Buchanan has far more creditability than other pundits.

The lefties are going to accuse Republicans of racism nomatter what Republicans do. Here, let me remove that leash from your neck.
We are driving our corporations overseas with 35% tax rates and mountains and mountains of niggling bureaucratic laws passed by federal agencies that were never voted into law. Then there are the litigants sucking what life is left after the government is done.
What is amazing is that they haven’t all left.
Want a real economy? Repeal the corporate tax entirely and enact a flat tax to fund our government.
We have one of the highest corporate tax rates of most of our big trading partners. Many of our trading partners have cut their corporate tax rates as it is beneficial to their economies to attract American corporations. Shouldn’t we learn from this?
Capitalism has allowed you to live better than kings have in the past. It’s the cancerous growth of socialism and statism that is eating the soul of Americans.

Of course Pat is like Joe McCarthy -- both of them conservative heroes unafraid to offend the politically correct.
If you buy into and perpetuate the smear of McCarthy, I am not surprised that you'd have a similar, knee-jerk aversion to Pat.
But maybe you belong to that neo strain of conservatism that came late to anit-communism and has always pushed for high level of immigration to promote a multicultural America.
Joe McCarthy did more damage to the fight against communism in this country than the communists could have done if they tried. He was a vile, drunken liar who hung with the Kennedys, so please don’t lecture me until you’ve stopped inhaling that tired spin and learned the facts. McCarthy gave the libs ammo they’re STILL using to smear those who fought and fight communism, and of course all you can do is push that tired “you push for a high level of immigration” crap when I’ve POSTED my feelings about illegal immigration. Pat makes sense. Sometimes we don’t want to recognize the sense that he makes at the time. We usually find out somewhere down the road that we should have listened to him.
I think we’d be looking at a very different scenario, a much better one.
