Indianapolis - US Representative Julia Carson says she has terminal lung cancer.
The 69-year-old Democrat, who took a leave of absence from Congress because of a leg infection a couple of months ago, released a statement to the Indianapolis Star saying she had battled cancer before, it had gone into remission, but has returned with "a terminal vengeance".
She said doctors discovered the cancer while treating her this summer.
Carson, who is from Indianapolis, has served in Congress since 1996. She had also served in the state legislature and as Center Township trustee.

This is very tragic. Hopefully, she’ll recover fully. Miracles have happened before.
Partisan disagreements all should be laid aside when it comes to such a horrid disease I don’t wish this evil disease on anyone.

I know what you mean. I lost my dad and sister to cancer. Cancer is a horrible ugly disease that destroys more than the person who has it. Prayers to totally wipe out this devastating horrible sickness. No one should ever have to experience it. I will keep her and her family in my thoughts and prayers. I am sorry that you had to go through it as well.
Let her find peace of mind as she readies herself to go home.

I agree - it’s time for a little perspective when someone is contemplating mortality. We can, and ought to be, “all friends after 5:00” to quote Ronald Reagan. War-to-the-knife politics is for losers. Prayers up for her and her family.

Actually she is receiving hospice care, allegedly at home. It appears they are giving comfort measures only. I just hope when it’s time she goes quickly and not suffer for weeks or months.
