Since Congressman Duncan Hunter (R-CA) is apparently going to explore the possibility of running for president in 2008, I thought I'd dig up some of his roll call votes. Like most Republicans, he's strong on tax cuts, but he's been part of the big government spending spree of the last 6 years. He also has a protectionist streak in him. Here are some of the more troubling votes:
NO on NAFTA
YES on No Child Left Behind
YES on Sarbanes-Oxley
YES on the 2003 Medicare Drug Benefit
NO on CAFTA
YES on 2005 Highway Bill
YES on the 527 bill (like most Republicans, he flip-flopped, having first voted NO on McCain-Feingold)
Hunter also went 0 for 19 on the Flake anti-pork amendments.
Despite being a member of the Republican Study Committee, Hunter frequently votes NO on their fiscally conservative annual budgets (2006, 2005, 2003...)
We gave him a 49% on the 2005 Club for Growth scorecard. That places him 187th within the House GOP conference, out of roughly 230 members.
National Taxpayers Union shows a more telling trend. He was strong in the early 1990s, getting "B's" and one "A", but as time went by, like most politicians, his score dropped. For the past few years, he's been getting "C's".
without a doubt!
Hunter is on the House Armed services Committee. Should Hunter make like Code Pink and refuse to fund the war on terrorism? Club for Growth is an anti-war organization.
Club for Growth is also a free-trade organization. Intent on selling American jobs to the lowest bidder.
Club for Growth is a shrill Libertarian organization.
I’m not for Fred because he is an actor with better results in the polls. Fred is simply the most consistent conservative in the race on all fronts.

Fred Thompson voted against it. I agree with you. Weren’t conservatives supposed to be up in arms over this massive expansion of government entitlements? It takes a pretty strong guy to buck his party, and this wasn’t the only Thompson vote like it.
and how does expanding medicare and the 2002 farm bill fund the war? on the contrary, it means less money for defense.
Looking at your profile page you should be supporting Ron Paul.
Who are they supporting?
The Club for Growth is another globalist turd factory, just like the Ad Council.
AAHHH Californians. Gotta love 'em.
Kurt Evans wrote: Of course not, but that doesnt necessarily mean Congressman Hunter isnt a solid, fiscally conservative candidate. As another poster has already noted, selective reporting can show just about any voting record in a bad light.
Yes, but those particular programs are especially notorious expansions of government. They definitely dont reflect well on Duncan Hunter in my opinion.

If those are the 2 only policies which are negative, and that is all the LIBERTARIAN club for growth can come up with, then it is a damn good track record for Hunter.
He’s been a Congressman since Reagan, and thats only 2 instances. Not only is it not too shabby, its almost perfect.
The Club for Growth seeks to eliminate US sovereignty. Always has.
Well here is a very wishy-washy place. Just take a look at how many freepers out of the 70,000 or so that are registered actually pay anything to support the place. Pathetic!
I’ll never understand why a restoration company for male pattern baldness has an interest in politics.
Anyone who doesn’t support Duncan Hunter is a Communist.
Damn anyone who won’t support Duncan Hunter.
Damn anyone who won’t damn anyone who won’t support Duncan Hunter.
Damn anyone who won’t sit up all night damning anyone who won’t support Duncan Hunter.
Hank
Discrediting this group is long overdue. Their latest games with the misguided Flake amendments is nothing more than a way to sell their globalist agenda. The Flake amendments were opposed by about 75% of Republican legislators because they were bad law, IMO.
I'd say their suggestion that a vote in favor of the 527 Reform Act constitutes a flip-flop on McCain-Feingold is blatant deception and an outrageous cheap shot.
Cheap shot is putting it nicely. I'd call it misrepresentation and fraud, myself.
That's scary. Take a closer look.
Huck hates them too. that must count for something...
How do you feel about Duncan Hunter? ;o)
Only 11 republican senators voted for it. (Campaign Finance Reform) Right now two of the 11 are running for president and I'm hearing crickets. Why is that??? *To reform the financing of Federal elections.
>>> Mr. MCCAIN (for himself, Mr. FEINGOLD, Mr. THOMPSON
Fred Thompson voted FOR his campaign finance bill along with McCain and 9 other republicans.
Vote on Passage.
this is why I switched from Hunter to Fred. Hunter turned out to be one of the Hastert Republicans who didnt get the message on spending and why we lost in 2006.
