Since Congressman Duncan Hunter (R-CA) is apparently going to explore the possibility of running for president in 2008, I thought I'd dig up some of his roll call votes. Like most Republicans, he's strong on tax cuts, but he's been part of the big government spending spree of the last 6 years. He also has a protectionist streak in him. Here are some of the more troubling votes:
NO on NAFTA
YES on No Child Left Behind
YES on Sarbanes-Oxley
YES on the 2003 Medicare Drug Benefit
NO on CAFTA
YES on 2005 Highway Bill
YES on the 527 bill (like most Republicans, he flip-flopped, having first voted NO on McCain-Feingold)
Hunter also went 0 for 19 on the Flake anti-pork amendments.
Despite being a member of the Republican Study Committee, Hunter frequently votes NO on their fiscally conservative annual budgets (2006, 2005, 2003...)
We gave him a 49% on the 2005 Club for Growth scorecard. That places him 187th within the House GOP conference, out of roughly 230 members.
National Taxpayers Union shows a more telling trend. He was strong in the early 1990s, getting "B's" and one "A", but as time went by, like most politicians, his score dropped. For the past few years, he's been getting "C's".
It doesn’t look like Club for Growth is thrilled with any of the candidates. I think Brownback scored well with them, but he is out. I don’t see all out love for any of them. Hunter does better than Huckabee. It is no surprise they disagree with him on trade. So? They can vote however they want. I’m going with Hunter.
Free trade is distinctly Marxist/socialist in it’s goals and origins.
Conservatives don’t support trading with our enemies, and thus empowering them to destroy free economies. If free economies are to survive and remain free, they must trade only with free peers. Trading with our enemies has weakened us tremendoudly, and destroyed our currency too.
Well said! Sounds like you've been listening to Duncan Hunter.
I support Hunter but you do him no service when you blanket statement people with regional insults.
“It doesnt look like Club for Growth is thrilled with any of the candidates. I think Brownback scored well with them, but he is out.”
I’m not surprised that Club for Growth likes Brownback, as both Club for Growth and Brownback are pro-ILLEGAL immigration.
bttt
Duncan Hunter voted YAY for trade with Australia, because it was in our country’s best interests.
But due to Red China’s cheating, we have a $250 BILLION trade imbalance EACH YEAR with China.
More money for China to build their military.
Do you trust Red China even when their military hacked into our Pentagon last June, among other things?
The Club for Growth is either naive or blinded by $$.
“Conservatives dont support trading with our enemies, “
Exactly. Red China is not our friend.
I can remember when Communist Chinese downed an American aircraft over INTERNATIONAL waters, and kept Americans as hostages. The Chinese pilot was purposely trying to down it at great risk, and the risk was so great that the Chinese pilot ended up getting killed.
Then the Chinese harass us by holding American military as hostages for a long time.
I don’t see the small town folks jump on the threads to snipe at the people who write “Kalifornia”, “Left coast wackos”, “or I wouldn’t live there in a million years” and the list could go on.
Along with their idea of a large city when most have never been in one, just their warped views.
It just happens, 90%+ of the people who make warped opinions , have no facts, bash a candidate and sound like they just came from cell meeting for third party losers are from the places I mentioned earlier
I have seen a few, mainly on a thread where a poster wished “Kalifornia” to depart into the sea, he received quite a lashing.
The lashings mainly come from folks in California.
So another moron without an original thought in his head how believes the sky is falling. Sorry to burst your paranoind bubble chicken little boy it isn't
No the sky isn’t falling but bodies were from the World Trade Center on 9/11 but of course you believe Bush did it.
Being someones bit** must be miserable,
it shows in your posting.
Take it from me...you don't know just how blessed you are to live in the South.
I wish I did. :o(
Come on back. We got plenty of room...
LOL!
I don't take up too much room. ;o)
I hope and pray that one day I will be fortunate enough to be able to live, at least, close to MS.
The Club for Growth is pro-ILLEGAL immigration, so I wouldn’t say it’s a good thing if the Club for Growth supports a candidate.
The Club for Growth is overrated by many folks.
