If the Senate is officially in session, there ought to be parliamentary manuevers that require the actual physical presence on the Senate floor. Republican Senators should respond throughout the period by continually demanding quorom calls.

Funny thing is I read a poll recently that showed Harry Reid with a miserable 30 something approval rating in Nevada, his propects for re-election don’t look good, but of course you won’t hear this from the MSM.

I think it’s time for another Levin Surge. They want to stay in session but not work? Isn’t that what they’ve been doing all year? How much tax payer money is going to go into keeping the buildings going, their offices open, over a National Holiday? Clerks, secretaries, telephone operators, security guards, interns, all the little people that are going to miss their holiday at home with their families because Harry Reid is terrified of George Bush? FUND THE TROOPS HARRY, YOU POS!!!

he does not need you.
The rules should allow a rule to have members make and pass a motion to adjourn.
The Congressional rules should be no different than roberts or demeters in this regard.

Senators just have to have a beeper and be prepared to return to the floor within 6 hours. Now obviously a scheduled airline will not make this happen. So, the Dept of Defense will have C-40/B (Boeing 737 equivalent) and crew standing by over the holidays. Aircraft will be dispatched anywhere in the country it is needed to shuttle Senators back and forth while they are on duty.
Better yet - hire a Kennedy as pilot.

No media bias there<<
Serious media bias. But Reed is smart to do this. We’ll see if Senators object to being ask to “work” more.

Washington DC is deserted. The elected officials are long gone. Maybe we’ll have a couple weeks of important news such as airport delays instead of the barrage of rhetoric on the latest bill.

have a Republican make a motion that a quorum is absent every time and force a quorum call and send the troops out to compel attendance and drag their asses back. Yes, Dick Cheney, as President Pro Tem of the Senate should do this every day. Does he celebrate Thanksgiving in Wyoming, or does he usually stay in DC at his home at the Naval Observatory?
