Saudi punishes gang rape victim with 200 lashes

A court in the ultra-conservative kingdom of Saudi Arabia is punishing a female victim of gang rape with 200 lashes and six months in jail, a newspaper reported on Thursday. The 19-year-old woman -- whose six armed attackers have been sentenced to jail terms -- was initially ordered to undergo 90 lashes for "being in the car of an unrelated male at the time of the rape," the Arab News reported.

But in a new verdict issued after Saudi Arabia's Higher Judicial Council ordered a retrial, the court in the eastern town of Al-Qatif more than doubled the number of lashes to 200.

A court source told the English-language Arab News that the judges had decided to punish the woman further for "her attempt to aggravate and influence the judiciary through the media."

Saudi Arabia enforces a strict Islamic doctrine known as Wahhabism and forbids unrelated men and women from associating with each other, bans women from driving and forces them to cover head-to-toe in public.

Last year, the court sentenced six Saudi men to between one and five years in jail for the rape as well as ordering lashes for the victim, a member of the minority Shiite community.

But the woman's lawyer Abdul Rahman al-Lahem appealed, arguing that the punishments were too lenient in a country where the offence can carry the death penalty.

In the new verdict issued on Wednesday, the Al-Qatif court also toughened the sentences against the six men to between two and nine years in prison.

The case has angered members of Saudi Arabia's Shiite community. The convicted men are Sunni Muslims, the dominant community in the oil-rich Gulf state.

Lahem, also a human rights activist, told AFP on Wednesday that the court had banned him from handling the rape case and withdrew his licence to practise law because he challenged the verdict.

He said he has also been summoned by the ministry of justice to appear before a disciplinary committee in December.

Lahem said the move might be due to his criticism of some judicial institutions, and "contradicts King Abdullah's quest to introduce reform, especially in the justice system."

King Abdullah last month approved a new body of laws regulating the judicial system in Saudi Arabia, which rules on the basis of sharia, or Islamic law.

Isn’t there some way Brian DePalma can blame this on US soldiers and marines?

I wonder where are all the feminazis on this? conspicuously silent. Hmmm, their selective moral outrage is pathetic.

Of course the lashing was raised, during the tussle the innocent men were provoked by seeing an ankle.

There is good news and bad news, Miss gang rape victim. We won our appeal! That’s the good news. The bad news is that the retrial upped your punishment to 200 lashes.

Put yourself in this woman’s position. She goes out for a drive with a man, gets gang raped and then is lashed for it 200 times. And she probably feels like she did something wrong by getting in a car with a man that is not her relative.

Muslims are pigs.

As despicable as this is, there is one thing we can do here “her attempt to aggravate and influence the judiciary through the media.” How refreshing is that?

The severity of this ruling is probably a warning shot from the hard liners to those elements in SA that would like to see things loosen up. One public figure recently stated that women should be allowed to drive. This may be a message to SA women to “stay in line”.

So many examples, like the fake virginity surgery talked about in another post from the UK. Again, nothing but silence from NOW.

Some things are simply irreconcilable. Some things are antithetical to each other.

Islam is both antithetical to, and irreconcilable with, Western Judeo-Christian civilization.

Islam Delenda Est - that must become America’s goal. Islam means to destroy the West.

“A court in the ultra-conservative kingdom of Saudi Arabia...”

Saudi Arabia isn’t “conservative”. It is an Islamic theocracy.

Iranian TV Reports on MEMRI TV Clips on Wife Beating in Islam

Following are excerpts from an Iranian television program using clips from MEMRI TV, which aired on Channel 2 on Novemeber 5, 2007.

Reporter: A few days ago, a Saudi TV channel broadcast a program that caused an uproar throughout the world. Our show brings you this report.

Translator: How should one beat [one’s wife], in your view? The beatings should be light and should avoid the face. The man should beat his wife in places where it won’t leave marks. He should not beat her on the hand.

Reporter : Don’t be amazed. You are hearing correctly. This show gives instructions on the proper way to beat your wife. My curiosity to see how this show reverberated led me to search the Internet. When I typed the name of the Al-’Arifi guy, I encountered a whole host of items denouncing this show. They all said that wife-beating stems from the laws of Islam. In one item, it even said that in Islamic countries, like Egypt, Iran, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Afghanistan, men beat their wifes and children once a day. In addition, I came across many clips of speeches on the rules of wife-beating, which served as a pretext for TV networks to present anti-Islamic propaganda. Such networks are more interested in psychological warfare than in presenting real news. This is true for Fox News, BBC, and all the other networks of the “cultural” NATO, or, in other words, all the Zionist, anti-Islamic networks. Even if we assume that the people who made the show about wife-beating were not acting on the orders of these media giants – judge for yourselves who profits from such shows, which lead to such extremist propaganda.

Reminds me of a woman who endured sexual harassment (politician has a woman escorted to a hotel room by police officers, he arrives, drops his pants, and says “kiss it”) and is punished for going public.

A group of so called feminists who’ve even been critical of consensual boss-secretary sexual affairs defend the politician, even after women alledge violent rape by this man (who reportedly said “better put some ice on that”).

They go public and revise policy to say that the first grope is “free” and that “it’s just sex”.

90 lashes probably would have killed her, but 200? Shes pretty much dead already. If it doesn’t kill her she will be scarred and crippled for life. Islam is an insane ideology.

The Saudi’s spread of Wahhabism is at the root of most of Islamic extremism that exists today.

So the Zionist are responsible for these shows? Shows presented in Islamic countries by Islamic stations and produced by Islamic leaders? But the Zionist controlled all of this? In countries where Jews will be killed and its illegal to possess a Bible.

Your hatred for Jewish people is making you say some incredibly insane things.

“If a catastrophe had befallen the Muslims, (they) might come to terms with the enemy…provided that the Muslims should resume the Jihad after the expiration of the treaty…treaties must be of temporary duration, for in Muslim legal theory the normal relations between Muslim and non-Muslim territories are not peaceful, but warlike…If the (leader) entered a treaty which he was incapable of fulfilling, the treaty was regarded as void…the Prophet Muhammad has set the classic example by concluding a (628 A.D.) treaty with the Makkans, known as the Hudayabiya Treaty (whereby) a peace treaty with the enemy is a valid instrument if it serves Muslim interests…the Prophet and his successors always reserved their right to repudiate any treaty or arrangement which they considered as harmful…Muslim authorities might come to terms with (the enemy), provided it was only for a temporary period…a temporary peace with the enemy is not inconsistent with Islam’s interests….”
