Small brewers from Australia to Oregon face the daunting prospect of tweaking their recipes or experimenting less with new brews thanks to a worldwide shortage of one key beer ingredient and rising prices for others.

Do you consider a case for $5-10 cheaper? Now granted, that assumes that you own the equipment and you are making all grain. But I used to buy grain by the sack and hops by the pound to further drive the cost down. Brewpub quality on tap in your home for pennies a pint. Ahhhhhhhh.
I demand ACTION TODAY!!!
The free market would work to rebalance grain production if more and more food crop acreage is not diverted to ethanol because of goverment-mandated ethanol use.
We are at the very beginning of the ethanol production increase curve. Wait until E85 is mandated by a 'rat-controlled federal administration. Right now very few people are willing to suffer the 30% in fuel mileage associated with E85.
I also brew, but when times are tight, I find that there are a lot of things in my cupboard that will successfully ferment. Crackers and bread, for instance.
Oh, and bagels.
“30%” should be “30% drop.”
I pray it isn't LITE!

Have you ever tasted beer without hops?
I can assure you, it is in there for more than shelf life.
Cheers,

I like the hopiness (hope that’s a word!) of premium beers. I haven’t drank domestic, i.e Bud, The Beast, etc.. since high school.
Its called Zima. A malt beverage with no hop flavor and no malt flavor. You can make your own Zima at home. Just add 1.5 ounces of vodka to a quart of club soda.
Now I drink Heineken bottles, and draft at bars occasionally. I must say the taste of the mini keg is quite good and the head from top to bottom is consistent.
But for the price; it is a 5L/3.3gal container, which works out to about 14.2, 12oz bottles, is a little steep considering I just picked up a cold 12 for 12.97.
I gather the price will come down in time as more outlets start carrying it. Its new and novel right now, so it gets a premium price. But its a neat idea, and a neat design.
I’ve noticed prices on the internet going up. But the local place I buy my stuff is holding steady. I’m worried they just havn’t had to re order for a while. It seems awfully strange that I can walk into a store and buy ingredients cheaper than what I can buy them for on the internet.
Why me, O Lord, why me??
“I demand that the President release the strategic beer reserve.”
Shhh. I hear that place is like Area 51 used to be. It doesn’t exist.
No hops? And no ammo either!

If Bush slaps tarrif on Scotch, I'm liable to start posting over at DU.
That’s scare mongering. That won’t happen in our lifetime.
I used to collect beer labels when I was a kid; Had a collectors book showing all the different label types along with the address of the breweries. All I had to do was write and ask and a few weeks later a thick envelope would come in the mail.
There was one beer in particular I never managed to get a label for and I guess it’s because they sold it in cans only. “San Franscico 69” because it sold for 69 cents a six pack. The name takes on a whole new meaning in modern times.
