The Baptists, Methodists, Catholics, Lutherans, Pentecostals, Mormons and a few other faiths have three things in common they believe in Jesus Christ, that He is the Son of God and that He died and was resurrected for our sins.
So whats the problem?
The political pundits continue to try and make Mitt Romneys religious beliefs a big issue as he runs for the Republican presidential nomination. Different denominations of Christianity are just that different denominations which means different worship practices of the same fundamental Christian beliefs.
Some people have commented that they cannot support Mitt Romney because he is a Mormon. When they are pressed to explain why that is objectionable, they stutter. Still others are skeptical of Mitt Romney based solely on hearsay or lack of knowledge about Mormons.

When you add, take away from, or go outside of scripture regarding the Lord it is a “different gospel” (2 Cor. 11:3-4, Galatians 1:6-9) Jesus is not the spirit brother of Lucifer, as Mormons believe.
1 Ti. 1:3, 1 Ti. 4:16, Titus 1:9, Revelation 22:18-19
I can’t support Romney because he’s a socialist. I could care less about his religion.
Yep...like I said, that's weird stuff.
Jesus is the only Son of God. It's only thru him and because of him we can be adopted as children, never through our own works. And we will never be Gods, contrary to what Mormons say.
I wont ask what other Christians think is the origin of Satan
Well, one answer you will never get is that Satan was a son of God. That's ridiculous.

There are many reasons to vote, or not vote, for a candidate. Thank goodness we still have the freedom to vote for whatever reasons we believe are important.
I've seen the word "bigot" used a bit lately in these discussions. Overused, I should say.
Amen !
Mormons believe that Jesus Christ is the ONLY begotten Son of God. Not weird at all.
But Romney also has a terrible stance on health care. A major reason I would never consider him.
Romney's healthcare solution is a conservative solution. His proposal (a form of which was eventually passed in Mass. - but not until after the 85% Democrat legislature had a chance to mess it up) in Massachusetts was endorsed and heralded by the premiere conservative Heritage Foundation (sometimes referred to as the Reagan Administration in exile) as a conservative healthcare solution.
Judge not....what was the rest of that?
The conceit that goes along with religion amazes me...the I’m right and you’re wrong mentality. Keep your religion in your heart and work for good.....and let the others do the same.
Pick a creed... any creed. My Theology professor at the Baptist College I attended seemed to prefer the Nicene Creed. It and similar documents were meant to provide a succinct definition of the fundamentals of Christian belief.
No, a "shill" is someone who supports a candidate either dishonestly or out of ignorance and largely for political reasons having nothing to do with ideological conformity, and who attacks other candidates on the basis of same (i.e., regardless of what a candidate believes or does). Mitt's actual record (which you've been silent about, other than to refer to it nebulously as a "reason" why other shills also support Romney), is not very good on abortion issues (which, btw, are not completely contiguous with the more ill-defined "life issues" spoken of by people with poor records on abortion).
Am I a "shill" just because I support someone that you don't? That's neither constructive nor mature to employ such namecalling to belittle fellow FReepers simply because you disagree with them on a single candidate in a single election.
No, you are a shill because you falsely portray (whether intentionally or because you have on blinders, I will not render an opinion) Mitt's position(s) on abortion. Likewise, you falsely attack FDT on the issue, using verifably false claims. Case in point would be your claim that FDT voted for some anti-life amendment to a bill back in 1995 (which you tried to use to "prove" that FDT doesn't have a "100% pro-life record). I disproved your assertion quite handily, something to which you never bothered to respond.
I can think of no other way in which his Mormonism would be relevant in the Presidential primaries.
Yes, it is weird when you dig into what they believe that means.
Like, for instance, the belief that Jesus was created. Nonsense. Jesus is eternal.
Also, Mormons believe that God the Father had sexual intercourse with Mary. That's also nonsense.
So specifically, what faiths are okay for our President to be?
Most assuredly they have; and even a few popes have had illegitimate children by several "wives"...HOWEVER, no pope, priest or minister has, to my knowledge, been regarded as the "founder, prophet, etc." of a major modern religion.
Yes, past LDS prophets Ezra Taft Benson (who served in the Eisenhower administration) and Spencer W. Kimball.
Kimball, 1969, THE MIRACLE OF FORGIVENESS, p. 286: "...we are commanded to be supermen...We are gods in embryo, and the Lord demands perfection for us." [see also. p. 3]
Kimball: Man can transform himself, but he has in him the seeds of Godhood that can grow. He can lift himself by his very bootstraps. Spencer W. Kimball, SLC Trib, 9/18/74
Benson: "We are gods in embryo." (Teachings of Ezra Taft Benson, p. 21)
Also, lest you don't think LDS are serious about multiple gods, and that folks like Romney are intent to be gods, note this Kimball comment: "Brethren 225,000 of you are here tonight. I suppose 225,000 of you may become gods. There seems to be plenty of space out there in the universe. And the Lord has proved that he knows how to do it. I think he could make, or probably have us help make, worlds for all of us, for every one of us 225,000." (The Ensign Magazine, Nov. 1975, p. 80).
This type of “reasoning” (sarc) has also been used much of late.
