Mitt Romney is a Mormon and I am a Baptist: Get Over It!
North Star Writers Group ^ | October 29, 2007 | Herman Cain

Posted on 10/29/2007 8:28:33 AM PDT by Invisigoth

The Baptists, Methodists, Catholics, Lutherans, Pentecostals, Mormons and a few other faiths have three things in common – they believe in Jesus Christ, that He is the Son of God and that He died and was resurrected for our sins.

So what’s the problem?

The political pundits continue to try and make Mitt Romney’s religious beliefs a big issue as he runs for the Republican presidential nomination. Different denominations of Christianity are just that – different denominations – which means different worship practices of the same fundamental Christian beliefs.

Some people have commented that they cannot support Mitt Romney because he is a Mormon. When they are pressed to explain why that is objectionable, they stutter. Still others are skeptical of Mitt Romney based solely on hearsay or lack of knowledge about Mormons.

You anti-Mormons are so predictable. After your smear of BYU students is exposed as completely contrary to the facts, instead of owning up to your smear, you try to change the subject.

I’m sure you’ve rationalized your deceit because you’re just “lying for the Lord,” right?

Thanks for your contribution to the discussion, Forrest.

If Romney is elected President, he wants to express his appreciation to you for following Paul’s counsel in 1 Timothy 2:1-3 for the “giving of thanks” to God for his presidency because Romney knows, as you do, that your prayers on his behalf as one “in authority” are “good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour.”

P.S. Keep running.

"Do you believe that He is the ONLY Son of God? ... If so, that would make you a Christian." Um, not quite. Even the demons believe He is the ONLY Son of God, they even testify of it and throw themselves down in obeisance to Him (Gadarene scene).

A Christian is one who has confessed with the mouth and IS BELIEVING/faithing in their heart/their soul, that God has raised Him from the dead, to transform them individually in soul with the indwelling presence of His Holy Spirit. Faith is an action word, where the Christian is (as in ongoing, not just once then ignore) offering self for transforming by His Spirit by the renewing of the mind. Being a Christian is a process not just a profession, proving again that He is Lord and creating new creatures 'in Christ Jesus'.

The substance of Christian disagreement with Mormonism is the issue of Mormons proclaiming salvation 'can come' to the individual 'after all that the individual can do' as if a balance sheet to earn the right to God's Grace. Jesus individually and through the scriptures teaches that 'Salvation cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God.' Salvation is an instant birth in spirit and a life process of Holy Spirit transforming work of the soul, the only works 'in the soul of the individual' that God has foreordained that we should walk in.

Just day before yesterday, a young LDS mother commits suicide and takes her three children with her.

You quoted: And I asked him the question, “What is your belief about God?” and he answered, “I believe I will be a god someday.”

Genesis 3
1. Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the LORD God had made. He said to the woman, "Did God really say, `You must not eat from any tree in the garden'?"
2. The woman said to the serpent, "We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden,
3. but God did say, `You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.'"
4. "You will not surely die," the serpent said to the woman.
5. "For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil."

As usual, you stopped to soon, God said in Genesis 3:22
22 And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:
Yes, Satan told Eve she could be like God, knowing Good from evil, and he actually told the truth (Dang! you just can't count on him to even LIE reliably.)

LOL!

I wonder if there is a MORMON place of worship at the end of the road.

There is another road I sometimes pass when I’m traveling from Sulligent to Birmingham called “Kingdom Hall Road”. Guess what is at the end of it?

When I go to my wife's Grandmother's house, we have to take a road called "Chicken Dinner Road" (I kid you not), so If I go to the end of the road, are you saying there's been a chicken dinner there since it was built? (Yecch!)

rodeo-mamma Said: I do have a problem with people not voting for Mitt because he is a Mormon, it is wrong to be so judgemental.

You said: Luke 7:43
Simon replied, "I suppose the one who had the bigger debt canceled." "You have judged correctly," Jesus said.
1 Corinthians 5:12-13
12. What business is it of mine to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside? 13. God will judge those outside. "Expel the wicked man from among you."
1 Corinthians 6:2-5
2. Do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if you are to judge the world, are you not competent to judge trivial cases? 3. Do you not know that we will judge angels? How much more the things of this life! 4. Therefore, if you have disputes about such matters, appoint as judges even men of little account in the church! 5. I say this to shame you. Is it possible that there is nobody among you wise enough to judge a dispute between believers?
You have the right to kick us out of your church, but not out of the faith in Jesus Christ.

Whether or not I am a christian is between me and Jesus, you are not him.

Feel free to eject me from your non denominational congregation, or what not, but I am still a Christian, for I believe in Jesus Christ.

I believe the response by Dr Graham (if it was him) was an attempt to disarm with humor a hostile question attempting to show Baptist to be narrow minded.

Thanks for the apology, I agree with completely with your last post.

OK, you're the first one who expanded topic.

I initially was only talking about what went on in ONE forum in ONE center on campus.

How did you first respond? You elected to expand the focus to the ENTIRE BYU campus and student body + faculty!!!

I then responded, mentioning the Roberts forum--which again focused on ONE forum in ONE center on campus.

How did you THEN respond? You decided to try to nudge the entire city of Provo into play.

So here I was posting about a few forums @ BYU, and YOU felt it necessary to "change the subject" so that now we were talking about the entire city of Provo! Well, I've got news for you: The city of Provo does not = BYU! (By your own standards, YOU expanded the focus and "changed the subject" (which by your own standards, means you've engaged in deceit & lying).

If you could bring the entire city of Provo into play, then tell me again exactly what's wrong with bringing the entire state of Utah into the discussion? (Or is topical expansion something only YOU are allowed to engage in?)

I think it is wrong when people get into a debate over who and who is not MORMON. In my opnion, the ones who like to be offensive and tell others they aren’t MORMON these people are usually the last ones who would be MORMON because they have the wrong focus.

(Like them Colorado City folks who ain't MORMON or them wishy-washy EX-RLDS folks who NEVER had the blessing the SLC branch has had!)

First, the CHURCH is a legal organization, and organizations such as the US of A have the right to police their members, and kick out those who don't belong (or are you saying we shouldn't be able to send illegal aliens back home...). The Mormon church is a creation of this world, organized, legally in the USA and exists to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ, which is not of this earth. We can and must control who our membership is to have a coherent message, much like the Catholics Excommunicate those who are unrepentant and living in Gross sins to protect the church.

There are many who no longer live the tenets of the Gospel as taught by the church. As long as they don't go public, or teach false doctrine at BYU, or start an opposition group to the church, we mostly just try to get them to come back. But for example there was a pro abortion group that went public as Mormons who support abortion who were all excommunicated. I think we should and do have that legal right. What no one but Jesus has is the right to say if someone believes on him. You need to repent of you smug assumption that you somehow have obtained that right.

I don’t know. Maybe there was a restaurant there once. Maybe a farmer ate the best chicken dinner he ever ate there once.

Maybe I’ll drive down Morman Road one day, and see.

And I can't stand it when the TRUTH is told about them and the LDS members get their noses out of joint!

Anyone who reads your posts and thinks you are telling the truth in an unbiased and forthright manner does not belong in our church anyway. (read that however you want.)

Since we seem to be posting opinions on this thread:

I think anyone who posts in a derogatory way about another religion is behaving like a Jackass, and cannot have the true love of Christ in his or her heart.

IMHO, those who attack us unmercifully do themselves more harm than us and don't hurt our church at all, actually, they make people curious.

This opinion is not aimed at any one poster, but at Mormons and Anti-Mormons alike. Don't attack other peoples sincere belief, you look like a jerk when ever you do and drag down your own position.

I Said: May Dad once told me "If you can't laugh at yourself, everyone else will."

You Said: Even if you DO laugh at yourself; many times you'll STILL find the rest of us are laughing at you, too!

And that supposed to anger me? LOL!

Elsie, I ran a technical support department for six years, I learned that with some people you just can't underestimate their intelligence, and you will often find them laughing at nothing in particular.

You are stuck on stupid—either that or you have ADD.

You smeared BYU students as liberals. Your claim of only talking about ONE forum is disingenuous. Anyone reading your post can see the clear message you were seeking to convey. The assertion was made by Utah Girl that Mormons didn’t think much of Harry Reid and what was your response?

“Which is why up to a/fourth of the over 4,000 BYU students & faculty present to hear Reid gave him a standing ovation, and the most of the rest a cheer.”

I exposed your lie of asserting that BYU students were liberals supportive of Harry Reid by linking articles showing that BYU is the 4th most conservative university in the U.S. and that Provo-—where (shock)BYU is located-—is the most conservative city in the U.S. Apparently, it isn’t obvious enough to you to realize the students who attend BYU actually live in Provo and that is why Provo’s conservative standing is relevant to the issue.

Your response-—completely change the subject from the conservative nature of BYU students to the issue of suicide rates in Utah.

You anti-Mormon folks are pathetic and the levels to which you will stoop to smear Mormons and the institutions affiliated with them is disgusting.

But, as I said, you’re just “lying for the Lord,” aren’t you?
