President Bush met with President Joseph Kabila of the Democratic Republic of the Congo this morning in the Oval Office. (Transcript)
Later, in the White House Roosevelt Room, President Bush again urged Democrats to stop dragging their feet and send him an appropriations bill:
October the 26th is the latest date in 20 years that Congress has failed to get a single annual appropriations bill to the President's desk.
The president also spoke about the overall incompetence of this Congress, mentioning their continued efforts to expand SCHIP (the House has passed a second and even more expensive bill than the one President Bush just vetoed), the stalled confirmation of Michael Mukasey as the next Attorney General, as well as Congressman Rangels plan to raise taxes by trillions. (Transcript)
First Lady Laura Bush wrapped up her Middle East tour today in Jordan, visiting the ancient city of Petra, one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. (Transcript)
Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice spoke at the dedication of the George C. Marshall Conference Center today at the State Department.
And former President George H. W. Bush presented Secretary of Defense Robert Gates with the 2007 George Bush Award for Excellence in Public Service at Reed Arena in College Station, Texas.
Enjoy your visit to Sanity Island
What an excellent article! Thanks Dr. Deb. for always finding good antidotes to the DBM!
Wow, it has been such a LONG time since I’ve posted here!!
I’ve been so busy but trying to keep up with George and Laura. Have there been any cute pictures in the last few months?
“I have said over and over that history will find President Bush the best President of this century if not all times. Every day I am more and more convinced of it”

I couldn’t agree more!!
Parking lot shots first, the motorcade into the park, and finally tents set up for meetings/sleeping for the firefighters.
Great photos. Thanks for sharing them with us
What an ad for Macy’s too, SCB! Thanks for sharing the pics! Any more? You tease.
Hey, how 'bout the rain (if you can call it that---sprinkle) we had today, huh? ---Nature...just tidying up a bit!
NOW CUT THAT OUT! That picture has made me green with envy. And green is my worst color.
(Lucky you!)
Tell your husband we appreciate the photos. Sorry he didn’t get to shake the great man’s hand, but he got closer than most of us ever do.
Yeah, can you believe he was THAT CLOSE to HIM? What? 10-15 feet? You can see the green shirt in the window if you look REALLY close.
It looks a little smokey. Or is that just normal haze?
That pic was taken probably around two years ago as several bldgs on those gen. blocks have gone up since .
From my Apt. I see many of the bldgs downtown and many of the high rise condos in my neighborhood.
kitkat...when you rent a car while visiting SD, you return it RIGHT across from the harbor and the boats and the glistening water. I think it's a brilliant PR move. Kinda makes you think to yourself..."...and the reason I'm leaving is what again???"
I spent one hour here visiting a friend once and ended up moving here...been here ever since--except for a brief interlude of work back east, and then came back. It's a remarkable place. When my Dad was alive and my parents visited, they said it looked like a movie set...so clean. They were staying in Carlsbad.
Hey Nord, Glad to see our Chargers playing at home tomorrow
That was an on line pic I posted.
If NO La had our City and County Gov. it wouldn’t have had 1/32 the problems it had.
Then again having self sufficient people here helps.
I hope they play "We are the Champions" at the game ;-)

I would love to see a thread asking people to tell what THEIR people did in an emergency to help themselves instead of behaving like spoiled chidren who depend entirely on the government. Maybe Fox or Rush would get the idea and show the socialists that Americans still have the pioneer spirit and the love of our freedom. Freepers would love standing up for their communities.
EXCELLENT idea!
The evacuation plan was A KEY issue, and the PEOPLE who executed it was THE SECOND AND MOST MAJOR KEY issue.
Brit Hume just said it's the role of the Federal Government to basically come in at the end, to "take blame and write checks."

He’s sure right about the “take blame” part. And how many times did we hear after NOLA that it was NOT the fed government’s fault and that the first responders should have been local. And Pres. Bush had to PHONE their ditzy governor and tell her to request federal aid.
Side note: I’ve been to church, did some cleaning and floor pacing while I waited for the delivery of an elec. generator, and now I’m going to catch up on the sleep I missed last night.
Your friend Cindy is in my prayers.
