I don't normally follow Ted Rall's work. But when J.M., a member of our military serving in Iraq, wrote NB about Rall's recent column and cartoon, I had a look. I'd say our soldier was being restrained in describing Rall's work as "particularly offensive."

I'm displaying one panel from his cartoon of October 22nd. You can view the whole of it here. As you'll note, the point is to celebrate the death of our soldiers, since they are "idiots" whose removal from the gene pool causes the average IQ back home to soar.

These political cartoons, etc. date back to at least the civil war (so-called) period, to the best of my knowledge; and, I expect, will continue into the future...

Ted Rall is still alive?

Damn, had not heard much from him lately, thought he may have ODed or something...

You just described many of my collegues! Seriously, tho, I know Ted and he is an aloof guy who is quietly very full of himself. He has a crowd of young syncopathic would-be counter-culture hangers-ons who live for his every thought and treat him like the second coming of Ghandi! He is an extensive world traveler and never lets you forget that he's "been there" and you haven't! He reworks almost every one of his cartoons for their anti-American shock value that is his stock and trade. Otherwise, I find him pleasant!

I've never met Ted Rall and for all I know he might be a fun guy and a decent guy in many ways. All I know is his cartoons...and they usually offend me greatly.

Does he write in his cartoons what he really believes? Or does he write what he thinks his young hangers-on want to believe?

You made his day! Yes, I believe he writes what he feels. Of course, any cartoonist will lay on the hyperboly and exageration with a trowel but in Ted's case it's like gunite! He is very hard left and I get the impression that he thinks conservatives (like me) are pure evil. So do his little disciples.

He's scheduled to be the AAEC president this year. It's gonna be fun!
