I was once going to encourage FR mod’s to auction off a (previously banned) 11/28/97 sign-on date ID for $30K on eBay.

I would have bid and even used “Buy It Now.”

The forum apparently (granted, I wasn’t born yet) started sometime in mid to late 1996 ... around the time I was but just a fetus and when Matt Drudge was petitioning the tooth fairy.

The site was officially stared on Sept 23, 1996. The Nov 1997 date is the date we implemented the registration system.

Wow. I remember hearing of the internet around that time, but didn't really know what it was and I hadn't yet been on it. In 97 A friend took me with him to the library where they had a couple of computers with dialup access to show me the internet. I didn't get a computer for the house and internet access of my own until 2001.
