Obama: No Hand on Heart for National Anthem
Newsbusters.org ^ | 10/20/07 | Mark Finkelstein

During rendition of the national anthem when the flag is displayed, all present except those in uniform should stand at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart. Men not in uniform should remove their headdress with their right hand and hold it at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart. -- United States Code, Title 36, Chapter 10, Sec. 171

Turns out that not wearing a flag lapel pin isn't the only way Barack Obama chooses to show he's a different kind of Democrat.

Have a look at the photo from the October 1, 2007 edition of "Time." It shows Obama, Hillary and Bill Richardson at the Steak Fry of Sen. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa) on September 17 in Indianola, IA during [according to the photo caption] the National Anthem. Richardson and Clinton have their hands on their heart. But not Obama. Does he perhaps believe that, like wearing the flag pin, the hand on the heart isn't "true patriotism"?

"Time" ran the photo without comment. I haven't seen coverage of this anywhere else in the MSM. Perhaps some enterprising reporter can ask the Illinois senator about his decision to spurn this American tradition.

I don’t think I’ve ever held my hand over my heart during the National Anthem. I always do for the Pledge of Allegience but fold them in front of me

You didn't spend enough late nights in front of your black & white TV. This is a PSA that always aired right before sign-off. Wish I could find it on You-Tube...

"Some people call me Old Glory, others call me the Star Spangled Banner but whatever they call me, I am your Flag, the Flag of the United States of America.

Something has been bothering me, so I thought I might talk it over with you, because it is about you and me. I remember some time ago people lined up on both sides of the street to watch the parade and naturally I was leading every parade, and proudly waving in the breeze. When your daddy saw me coming, he immediately removed his hat and placed it against his left shoulder so that his hand was directly over his heart - remember?

And you, I remember you, standing there straight as a soldier. You didn't have a hat, but you were giving the right salute.

Remember little sister? Not to be outdone, she was saluting the same as you with her right hand over her heart. Remember?

What happened? I'm still the same old flag. Oh, I have a few more stars since you were a boy. A lot more blood has been shed since those parades of long ago. But now I don't feel as proud as I used to. When I come down your street you just stand there with your hands in your pockets and I may get a small glance and then you look away. Then I see the children running around and shouting - they don't seem to know who I am.

I saw one man take his hat off then look around. He didn't see anybody else with their hats off so he quickly put his back on! And what about that night at the ball game, when they played the "Star Spangled Banner" and I waved so proudly in the breeze, but no one bothered to sing? Oh, they stood up, all right, as a sort of a mild patriotic gesture, but then they talked among themselves about the game and weather, but they did not sing. I felt hurt.

Is it a sin to be patriotic anymore? Have you forgotten what I stand for and where I've been? Anzio, Guadalcanal, Korea, Viet Nam, and the Persian Gulf. Take a look at the memorial honor rolls sometime of those who never came back, in order to keep this Republic free: One Nation Under God. When you salute me you are actually saluting them. I may not be coming down your street for a long time, as it seems that patriotic parades are a thing of the past. But when I do, will you do me a big favor?

Stand up straight, place your right hand over your heart, and if they play the "Star Spangled Banner," sing out loud and clear. I will salute you by waving back.

Show me you remember."

It has always been my understanding that you put your hand over your heart for the "pledge", but not for the singing of the national anthem. You should remove your hat during the anthem, naturally.

I think the symbolism is that you are taking an oath for the pledge and thus swearing on your heart. The anthem is not an oath.

The caption of the image, from “Time” magazine, states that it was taken during the National Anthem.

And where were the photojournalist's hands?

Not that one excuses the other, especially since the PJ isn't running for President...and DID provide this evidence.

Now that Obama doesn’t wear a flag pin, he sees no reason to put his hand over his heart.
The only problem is that the National Anthem was being played.

‘CAUSE HE’S A @AMN MUSLIM!

>>>I doubt they taught US flag etiquette at young Hussein’s madrassa.<<<

That's a huge point you bring up! Muslims consider paying allegiance to a State (or any entity but Allah) a sin - the sin of polytheism.

This makes we believe that his early schooling in Muslim madrassas in Indonesia still is where his heart is - and makes him entirely un-fit for any office, much less the Presidency!

Hussien Obama is a muzzie! The other dims have left his history alone because the 'fix-is-in' seems to be working - the hillary/richardson ticket.

You can bet that his muzzie past would be plastered all over the MSM if he was leading in the 'polls', and Phil's pic would be on every phone pole.

Was this him revealing the “Taqiyya” of his Muslim faith to us?

"In fairness to Obama, is it possible the song hadn’t started yet?"

No !!

The woman in the middle is clearly belting out the National Anthem, and Obama cleary has his hands over his crotch.

If that’s the case, He’ll remind of good ol’ President Clinton, In which the Constitution is a minor inconvenience to be ran around with Executive orders.

Excellent point! I read a To The Point article from Dr. Jack Wheeler that pointed out that he’s never officially left Islam. I fear for this great country of ours.
