SAN DIEGO -- With fire spreading quickly westward, San Diego County officials ordered the evacuation of a huge area east of Interstate 15 between Del Dios Highway and Highway 56 early Mon"This is the worst fire this county has ever seen -- worse than the Cedar Fire [of 2003]," Sheriff Bill Kolender said.
At a news conference shortly after 6 a.m., officials said fires had spread dramatically overnight, whipped by fierce Santa Ana winds. They said fire had jumped Interstate 15 at Lake Hodges and was burning in parts of Rancho Bernardo. Because of the explosive and unpredictable nature of the blazes, all residents living between Interstate 15 and Interstate 5 from Del Dios Highway in the north to Highway 56 in the south were told to begin evacuating.
"This fire is moving very quickly," San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders said. "Watch TV, listen to the radio and have your car prepared to leave."
Among the communities in the evacuation area are Rancho Sante Fe, Carmel Highlands, Rancho Bernardo, Del Mar Heights and Fairbanks Ranch and parts of Rancho Penasquitos.
Officials have opened Qualcomm Stadium in Mission Valley to handle the large number of evacuees.
Sanders asked everyone in San Diego County to minimize the use of cell phones to leave the airways free for the use of emergency personnel.day.

An update, Fox News is reporting that of the fires in San Diego, one was caused by a transformer burning out, one other a suspected illegal alien campfire.
They’re thinking the one in Irvine was arson.
Last time something like this happened, teirrasanta almost burned down, just north of Quallcomm on I-15. Wife had to hose down the back yard, and the house. Thank the stars for Ice Plant - a great natural fire boundry and ground cover.
Sorry- not sure which streaming station I was watching. They said it had just come in- closing due to smoke/fires.
WOW!
PRAYERS, PRAYERS!
I CERTAINLY
AGREE WITH YOU 1,000% about showing Love to one and all . . .
feeding one’s enemies is pretty loving . . . and I’ve done a fair amount of that in my time, by His Grace and command.
HOWEVER, IN CERTAIN CONTEXTS, I’d also have no trouble being the God placed authority that ‘took em out’ . . . such as a war situation or bashing down the door to hurt my family etc.

INDEED.
Reminds me of the Hopi reportedly digging deeper KIVAS to store seeds in and endure during a presumed coming predicted 2 week or so intolerable heat from the sun to scorch the earth . . . .
Plenty of good reasons to dig some shelter in this era, imho.
Does anyone know of a map of the evacuation areas? I have family in Poway and Escondido; cannot contact them...stuck here in South Carolina.
I’m very slightly ashamed for what I think they should do with him once caught.
. . . turning him loose with some Marines . . .
on a deserted South Seas island with no witnesses . . . could be fitting . . . amongst other possibilities.
Thankfully, vengeance is God’s. But He also ascribes to authrotities His retribution . . . such as executions.
That's stunning. It sounds like something out of a horror movie.
Dear Heart,
If you don’t take good care of yourself, you can’t take good care of the rest of us either! LOL.
Please take at least 40 min naps when workable.
Very blessed to read that.
I hope the roof is metal or tile. And that your walls are brick, stucco or adobe.
When you get a bad firestorm like this, the local MSM actually covers it up a bit. They go into fluff mode because the actual hard news is just too devastating too take. It happened in 2003 during the last Firestorm. Had a nasty situation occur in San Bernardino just before the Cedar Fire started wrecking its devastation. A local Los Angeles station cut into a live shot of western San Bernardino where dozens of homes were burning and no fire engines could be seen anywhere. Once they realized what they were looking at, they cut away and only came back in a more controlled fashion. Later on we learned that residents in this western San Bernardino subdivison were not even given evacuation notices. The reason was because the Santa Ana winds were driving the fire storm faster then the police could issue the evacuation order. They seem to be doing a good job this time with the evacuation orders.
Do you have any awareness of
DUDLEY’S BREAD shop on the way to Julian???
Great bread. Sure miss it.
During the fires in NM in 2000, the temperature as one came over a ridge was measured at 2500 F. When the area cooled there were holes in the ground that branched off in all directions. It was where large ponderosa pines had had their roots burned to nothingness.
In droughts in NM, the trees have 6% moisture content, kiln dried lumber at Home Depot is nearly double that.
INDEED.
Ongoing prayers for all such.
HOw much of a fire break is around your property?
