UPDATE: The city of Malibu is advising residents in Puerco Canyon to begin evacuating due to a wildfire driven by powerful winds. This area is north of Pacific Coast Highway and about 1 mile west of Pepperdine University. Residents along the beach on Malibu Road may soon be evacuated. Pacific Coast Highway is closed between Kanan-Dume Road and Topanga Canyon. Residents are advised to head to the west. Evacuation centers are being set up in the Zuma Beach area.
A wildfire driven by powerful winds in the Malibu Hills this morning threatened a university, destroyed at least one home and forced the evacuation of hundreds more, authorities said.

I’ve heard a wide range on wind speed... earlier, it was 60-80 mph during the night.
The devil wind was fierce down here in West L.A. last night, blew all the tiny pebbles off the tar paper roof of my apt. bldg.....
That is strange, but I know what you mean. When I was departing from LAX and looking out the window it was disorienting to be seeing the Pacific Ocean and it wasn’t due west as you normally see it on a map, but it was looking north as you could see the lights along the coastline heading up towards Oxnard-Santa Barbara.
Yup. Sorta like your first thought when someone tells you that Reno, Nevada is further west than LA.

Not a good thing to say, even if it was tongue in cheek. My sister lives only about 15 miles north of there in Agoura Hills. Don’t be a jerk.
Some would not believe, and most would never know, there are quite a few ordinary, everyday people living in Malibu too....
No injuries for Firefighters or civilians so far ....listening to Channel 2 CBS from the other room...some areas have mandatory evacuations...others voluntary...suggesting documents regarding pets...etc be gathered prior to evacuating....embers are really starting scattered areas to flame up...
