UPDATE: The city of Malibu is advising residents in Puerco Canyon to begin evacuating due to a wildfire driven by powerful winds. This area is north of Pacific Coast Highway and about 1 mile west of Pepperdine University. Residents along the beach on Malibu Road may soon be evacuated. Pacific Coast Highway is closed between Kanan-Dume Road and Topanga Canyon. Residents are advised to head to the west. Evacuation centers are being set up in the Zuma Beach area.
A wildfire driven by powerful winds in the Malibu Hills this morning threatened a university, destroyed at least one home and forced the evacuation of hundreds more, authorities said.

FIRE WEATHER DESK WILL BE ISSUING A FIRE WEATHER WATCH IN THIS AFTERNOON`S PACKAGE FOR STRONG (25 MPH SUSTAINED AND GUSTS 35 TO 45 MPH) WINDS AND LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITIES STARTING LATE FRIDAY NIGHT AND CONTINUING AT LEAST THROUGH SATURDAY AFTERNOON AND POSSIBLY INTO SATURDAY NIGHT. OUR OFFSHORE WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO DECREASE SATURDAY NIGHT...WHILE RELATIVE HUMIDITY LEVELS MAY STILL BE LOW. THIS AGAIN WILL BE A MUCH WEAKER EVENT THAN THE LAST...THOUGH STILL LOOKS TO BE WITHIN CRITERIA FOR CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS...CLOSE ENOUGH FOR A WATCH AT LEAST. SATURDAY SHOULD BE THE WARMEST DAY ACROSS THE AREA...THOUGH AS WAS MENTIONED IN THE PREVIOUS DISCUSSIONS THE OVERNIGHT LOWS COULD BE FAIRLY COOL IN SHELTERED AREAS AND WARMER IN WINDIER SPOTS.

Young Boy Started Buckweed Fire With Matches
************************EXCERPT***********************
All but four of the blazes are now fully contained. Firefighters on Wednesday continued to cut lines around the remaining fires and kept a close eye on the weather.
Forecasters have said moderate Santa Ana winds could pick up later in the week.
Investigators have blamed an arsonist for setting a destructive wildfire in Orange County that blackened 28,500 acres and destroyed 16 homes.
Authorities were seeking the driver of a white Ford F-150 pickup truck spotted in a canyon area around the time the fire broke out. They said they wanted to talk to the driver, but stopped short of calling the person a suspect.
Officials offered a $285,000 reward to anyone with information that will lead to an arrest and conviction.
So it was ALL BUSH’S fault.
Look at what the “NO CHILDREN LEFT BEHIND” program has done.
George Bush obviously used this program to create a mind control that MADE this child start the fires...
Only a little smoke now, from Mt. Palomar (poomacha?). Hopefully it’ll be out soon.
Couple of houses burned, quite a number of people were evacuated.
I hope so too....
They reported yesterday the kid was a 9 year old. Then it was reported he was a 10 year old. Now it's being reported he is a 12 year old by Homeland Security.
He lived with his parent in a mobile home at the Carousel Ranch for mentally challenged children... The kids "Dad" worked for the "ranch" as a grounds keeper and taking care of the horses. ..It's reported the kid has been sent away to live with other relatives elsewhere.
Due to the blackout in regards to details surrounding this story, they were speculating on KFI Los Angeles an hour ago that this kids parents might be in the country illegally, but no one is saying...They are being very tight lipped about any details in regards to this story. They won't even say if this was intentionally started or if he was just "playing with matches" and accidentally started the fire.
The lack of details here seem suspect.
If you recall, that Hollywood Hill fire started behind the Oakwood apartments by the two kids from Illinois did not lack any of the details this story seems to be lacking.
BTW, the Illinois kids were never charged. Of course no home were lost in that fire.
