UPDATE: The city of Malibu is advising residents in Puerco Canyon to begin evacuating due to a wildfire driven by powerful winds. This area is north of Pacific Coast Highway and about 1 mile west of Pepperdine University. Residents along the beach on Malibu Road may soon be evacuated. Pacific Coast Highway is closed between Kanan-Dume Road and Topanga Canyon. Residents are advised to head to the west. Evacuation centers are being set up in the Zuma Beach area.
A wildfire driven by powerful winds in the Malibu Hills this morning threatened a university, destroyed at least one home and forced the evacuation of hundreds more, authorities said.

I have been wondering about the Super Scooper comments on rotw for that past few days. Those planes are based in Van Nuys, not Fox Field. I personally think they have their planes confused.
I used to want to air attack Holly Hunter.
Shouldn't be as bad, we're down to our last 200,000 acres of brush. :-)
Fox Field’s near Lancaster, it’s a normal base. If he’s been flying since dawn, the guy probably needs fuel.
Should be safe, we all know steel doesn't burn. /sarc
Tankers were out of Fox. Air Attack controller having trouble with fast movers and rotary mixing. The tankers are coming back to Running Springs and they are going to limit the helos in the area.
Check that, fixed wing tankers, not fast movers. I don’t think a tanker can go that fast to be considered a fast mover???
Has anyone heard Helicopter 525?
Not here.
Well it turns out the fire officials got their address wrong. They were allowed to go up to their property yesterday and inspect the damages. While their small orchard and surrounding foliage was toast, THE HOUSE WAS UNTOUCHED.
This was certainly a miracle! It was if it burned every house surrounding them, skipped their property and burned every house behind them! Of the 200 homes in the Bernardo neighborhood, over half were totally destroyed. The little address of Olmeda Pl was sparred.
I had a peace about me yesterday and when we got the call from my Mother in law I wasn’t surprised!
Prayers were answered!
God is Good!!!!
Pass it on!
Great news! :-)
Qualcomm now cleared
Posted @ 12:08 PM
The last evacuee just left Qualcomm stadium, keeping to Mayor Jerry Sanders’ word that the temporary shelter would shut down by noon today.
Crews have started to pack up the extra supplies to send them to other charities, and stadium workers are on the field preparing it for Sunday’s Chargers game.
That is Desiree Horton...not sure if she is working it.
That has been shown to have not been true. Our Gubbie often stretches the truth.
Top state officials Thursday clarified that the governor's figures include contract aircraft that had been subsequently requested as well as planes owned by local agencies. As of Monday morning, when local officials say air support was most needed, 35 state and federal planes could fight fires in Southern California not 90, officials said.
That’s pretty awesome for a bunch of “incompetent bureaucrats”, huh? LOL (Not my words! Just repeating them sarcastically). So that means that the fires are pretty much under control where most of the people who were evacuated to the stadium live right?
No, it hasn’t been “shown” - that liberal rag is a load of nonsense at best.
Yeah, I just KNEW you’d be so surprised.
It’s far from over. There are still 50,000 people under mandatory evacuation and several fires are still raging.
Pray the weather doesn’t change for the worse.
Clarification: the 50,000 is only San Diego County.
