UPDATE: The city of Malibu is advising residents in Puerco Canyon to begin evacuating due to a wildfire driven by powerful winds. This area is north of Pacific Coast Highway and about 1 mile west of Pepperdine University. Residents along the beach on Malibu Road may soon be evacuated. Pacific Coast Highway is closed between Kanan-Dume Road and Topanga Canyon. Residents are advised to head to the west. Evacuation centers are being set up in the Zuma Beach area.
A wildfire driven by powerful winds in the Malibu Hills this morning threatened a university, destroyed at least one home and forced the evacuation of hundreds more, authorities said.

I remember it well. That fire (in ‘93) traveled pretty far down the coast. ...even threatening Pacific Palisades. Drove up to my favorite burger stand (Country Kitchen) in Malibu a week later and the hills were black right down to PCH for miles.
I lived in Brentwood at the time and could see the flames from there. Of course, they looked so much closer and we obviously were in no danger, but it sure was a scary sight.
Malibu Fire now up around 1000 acres...confirmed count of structures destroyed was not yet very high....

They just released them from the incident....they are going to refuel at Van Nuys and head up to the October IC in Santa Clarita

Malibu is an amazing place and, as someone who as been fortunate enough to call the area home for a number of years, is hardly the liberal bastion many assume it to be.
To take glee in others misfortune and devastation is a terrible trait.
