UPDATE: The city of Malibu is advising residents in Puerco Canyon to begin evacuating due to a wildfire driven by powerful winds. This area is north of Pacific Coast Highway and about 1 mile west of Pepperdine University. Residents along the beach on Malibu Road may soon be evacuated. Pacific Coast Highway is closed between Kanan-Dume Road and Topanga Canyon. Residents are advised to head to the west. Evacuation centers are being set up in the Zuma Beach area.
A wildfire driven by powerful winds in the Malibu Hills this morning threatened a university, destroyed at least one home and forced the evacuation of hundreds more, authorities said.

The Bee has State fire officials asking for out of State support to the tune of 250 engines.

25 units are heading down there from Oregon even as we speak. No doubt other states are mobilizing to assist as well.

From Beverly Hills/Beverlywood today, the worst (thickest, darkest) smoke was to the east... then, thicker whiter smoke to the south and it is drifting westward. The sky became more hazy today, dimming the sunshine.
I may stay in all day tomorrow....

Stevenson Ranch has flared up again, Fatima... showing on the TV now, looks really bad.
Nasty situation. The smoke from that fire is hanging low and traveling down the mountain. From the west the smoke is traveling south and looks like your typical stream traveling over a car in a wind tunnel tester. That smoke trail then turns to the southwest straight over my head. Smoke was very dark at sunset. Wonder what will happen if we get a rolling tidal wave of embers coming down the mountain with that wind ?
There should be plenty to hijack or steal given the circumstances.
Fire chief on Fox news just said that if the wind continues blowing strongly to the West, this fire storm could do a complete 35 mile run all the way to the ocean, burning multi-million dollar mansions in it's path to the ground.
God help them..
