UPDATE: The city of Malibu is advising residents in Puerco Canyon to begin evacuating due to a wildfire driven by powerful winds. This area is north of Pacific Coast Highway and about 1 mile west of Pepperdine University. Residents along the beach on Malibu Road may soon be evacuated. Pacific Coast Highway is closed between Kanan-Dume Road and Topanga Canyon. Residents are advised to head to the west. Evacuation centers are being set up in the Zuma Beach area.
A wildfire driven by powerful winds in the Malibu Hills this morning threatened a university, destroyed at least one home and forced the evacuation of hundreds more, authorities said.

White House says Bush calls governor to make sure state gets help
http://www.bakersfield.com/119/story/266153.html
A White House spokesman says President Bush has called California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger to make sure the state is getting the help it needs from the federal government to fight the devastating wildfires.
White House deputy press secretary Scott Stanzel says in an e-mail that Bush called Schwarzenegger during the early afternoon Monday.
Stanzel says the Federal Emergency Management Agency has provided fire management assistance grants for four major fires.
The grants provide 75 percent of the cost for field camps, equipment repair and replacement, mobilization activities and other expenses.
In addition, Stanzel says the U.S. Department of Agriculture has deployed fire crews, engines, air tankers and helicopters to the incident areas.
