UPDATE: The city of Malibu is advising residents in Puerco Canyon to begin evacuating due to a wildfire driven by powerful winds. This area is north of Pacific Coast Highway and about 1 mile west of Pepperdine University. Residents along the beach on Malibu Road may soon be evacuated. Pacific Coast Highway is closed between Kanan-Dume Road and Topanga Canyon. Residents are advised to head to the west. Evacuation centers are being set up in the Zuma Beach area.
A wildfire driven by powerful winds in the Malibu Hills this morning threatened a university, destroyed at least one home and forced the evacuation of hundreds more, authorities said.

At least 700 acres had burned and the city of Malibu is advising about 200 residents in Puerco Canyon to begin evacuating due to the brushfires in an area north of Pacific Coast Highway and about one mile west of Pepperdine University. Residents of Sweetwater Canyon also were evacuated.
Officials were warning residents along the beach on Malibu Road that they may soon be evacuated, as they braced for the potential that the fire could jump Pacific Coast Highway.
Residents in those areas are advised to head to the west, and evacuation centers are being set up in the Zuma Beach area.
Details of the houses that were burned was not available, but officials said Malibu Presbyterian Church on Malibu Canyon Road had burned.
Embers from the fires were igniting trees - and at least one car - as they were pushed by the wind throughout the area.
Firefighters from as far away as Montebello and Long Beach were called in to fight the blaze that had burned more than 700 acres by 10:30 a.m.
LA County Fire Capt. Mike Brown said 500 personnel were deployed in the air and on the ground to fight the blazes.

Besides the fact, we had VERY LOW RAINFALL this past season...
A Super Scooper....but wind is so bad ...can’t scoop up from the ocean...using a lake somewhere out there....
I hope they protect the University as well (a lot of great conservative minds there at the law school - Ken Starr, Doug Kmiec etc.).

I’m trying to reach a close friend whose house burned down from the Malibu fire in the 90s. How sad is this! I’ve shopped several times at the shopping area and frequented the Michael Landon community center right across from Pepperdine. Prayers to all in the community. I’m very glad Gladstones is safe.
